Does anyone else think it is strange how the housemates never seem to actually talk about anything? The only real discussion has been about patriotism, started by Josh. Its as if they are interested in nothing that is going on outside the four walls. Maybe I'm wrong - can anyone shed any light?

Discussing anything going on "outside the four walls" could prove somewhat difficult considering that they've had no contact with the outside world for a month.

I refer to the 'outside the four walls' in the broadest possible sense, in that the topics don't have to be current. They don't really discuss films, books, sports, media personalities, the econonomy, the concept of Big Brother, why they are doing it, etc etc etc.

I disagree. I've often heard them discussing many of those topics. As for the BB concept, I've frequently thought that they've been talking about it too much. Are you just watching the C4 "edited highlights" programme by any chance?

Yeah actually!!! Apologies if that is the case. But I don't understand why the editors don't show us at least some of these conversations. I realise that they are under time constraints but surely some of the stuff we are shown can be replaced e.g. people washing up or rolling around with period pains. Anyway I'm just playing devil's advocate really! I love the show but just get frustrated. Maybe I should get E4 but then I might never leave the house. For the record Brian is my favourite but then I am irish!

I think that the producers choose what they think are certain key moments and themes from the period that each programme covers. Anything that doesn't fit that scheme for each episode is ignored. Similarly, it appears that they tone down the actions of certain "entertaining" characters in an attempt to keep them in the house for longer. The worst sides of Brian, Narinder and even Stuart have never been shown on C4. You might get a better idea of what's going on through this forum.

Editing[*] always distorts reality, which is why it's usually wise not to believe anything on screen or in print.

[*] Not to mention other audio, visual and literary components.
