Led Zeppelin looking for a new singer
What's the point?
Robert Plant refuses to go on tour with Led Zeppelin. They are going to go anyway and are auditioning for a new singer! What the f**k? You can replace a drummer, keyboard player, bassist and a lead guitar player (sometimes). It's like AC/DC after Bon Scott died (Brian Jonhson proves my point!). Queen after Freddie Mercury died. |

How can you have Led Zep without Robert Plant.

You couldn't replace Led Zep's guitar player either!!
I'm already saving my pennies to buy a jet. |

I hate to say it...but once again it's probably down to money.
Tempted back on the road by the promise of massive profits. Queen did it with Rodgers, but then again I quite like the new album anyway. I like both Queen and Rodgers anyway. Oh ok...roll on the 26 pages of 'it's not Queen without Freddie' and 'It's not Zeppelin without Plant' responses...but regardless we all know that they will fill stadiums when they tour, as Queen still do. Not as many naysayers out there as you might think... Yes did the same thing recently as well - they were due to tour the US this year, set dates etc and then singer Jon Anderson fell ill and it was postponed. But rather than wait and reschedule, they found a new singer from a Yes tribute band and are going to go ahead with the proposed dates. It's a worrying trend, cannibalising well known bands by employing singers from tribute bands. Journey have recently done it, as have Focus and Iced Earth. |

Or maybe they just like playing their music - it's hardly as if they need the money. Led Wallet Jimmy certainly doesn't.

To be quite honest I don't see what is wrong with Led Zep touring without Plant as singer. Plant has made it quite clear that he doesn't want to tour so why not get another singer in, as long as he can sing the same as Plant or even better him then it might be a good thing.
I would still pay money to hear the classics live with or without Plant as singer. |

To be honest I would think most AC/DC fans have become fans SINCE he died.
If they are looking for a sound-a-like then it has to be the lead singer with Wolfmother. ![]() ![]() I've got all their vinyl albums before Bon Scott died (a vomit induced rock 'n' roll honourable death IMO) and they were brilliant. I agree they were still good after Brian Johnson joined (I saw them a couple of times at the monsters of Rock). If Bon Scott had survived, they would have been even better. |

Well RP wasn't JP's first choice as lead singer for LZ but it is impossible now to imagine the band without him.

Focus are still an incredible live band though. I went to see them last year, and was expecting to be disappointed due to the lack of Jan Akkerman, but it was such a good show! I'd recommend anybody to go see them
![]() I met Thijs playing in a jazz combo with some world-class musicians in a local hotel/pub as a special event a couple of years ago - he said that he was on good terms with the Focus guys - and enjoyed playing with them still. I can't get the idea of Zep without Plant - Queen plus Rogers is honest, Zep without Bonham and Plant is just "Page and Jones" - a good musical act, but not Zep. |

I am old school: I am not a big fan of Pink Floyd without Barrett and Waters nor of Genesis without Gabriel and Hackett.

To be honest Plant did all the Led Zeppelin classics with the Strange Sensations so I see no reason why Page and John Paul can't do it. However I disagree with them calling themselves Led Zeppelin as it is only half the band.

There is no Led Zep without Robert Plant.
May as well give up now, as it'll all end in tears. |

Being a fan since 1971, I thought I was going to be disappointed without Jan Akkerman, but 'new' guitarist Niels van der Steenhoven is superb, and I love them as much now as I ever did. Also met the band afterwards - you couldn't possibly wish to meet a greater, more friendly group of guys. |

Look at the way INXS decimated the memory of a once great band, by shockingly recruiting a replacement for Michael Hutchence through a reality TV show
![]() Reunions can never work without the singer. Fact !!! |

Why don't they get Rolf Harris to stand in?

Me too!!!
He IS Led Zep!But to say that Robert Plant is Led Zep is a little strange. Don't forget, this was always Jimmy Page's band. He took on the mantle of finding the new Yardbirds after the original Yardbirds disbanded, he invited the other three members to join his band, he wrote all the (original) material for the first album, he designed all the album covers, he produced all the albums, he told Peter Grant when and where they would play, he is the one who created the Coda album after John Bonham's death, he is the one who put together the Remasters CDs and the Led Zeppelin DVD. Robert Plant may have been the monkey - he was never the organ grinder. Jimmy Page is Led Zeppelin! Robert Plant was the singer in Led Zeppelin. There is a difference. |

Maybe Zep should tour as 'an evening of Led Zeppelin music'. |
