Name that tune

Could anyone tell me what the name of the up-to-date version of this song is. The new one is a fair few years old and we are wreaking our brains trying to think what it is,

do you mean the original?

Its by 'the shadows' and called 'Apache'.
very early sixties .

I knew that one I'm afraid. I wanted to know what the most up to date cover was called.

Fat Boy Slim did a big beat version of it, also called Apache. You'll find it in no time on Kazaa.

The Sugarhill Gang also did a version at some point in the early 80s. But they didn't call it Rapache, which would have ruled.
