Playing the ipod in the car

Does anyone have any advice for playing an ipod in a car?

I bought the itrip, but with almost every spare inch of FM bandwidth taken up in London, it's impossible to get it to work.

My car has a CD player, so I'm pretty out of ideas.

Anyone got any advice on how to get the itrip to work, or better alternatives?

If your existing stereo doesn't have an aux-in then your options are pretty limited:

1. Get a new head unit with Aux-in. (Just bought one for the wifes car .... wasn't horrendously expensive .... around £50 for a basic Kenwood)

2. Look into something like the Denison Ice Link (have a google for it .... you'll probably need someone to fit it though)

3. If your car has a CD multi-changer input jack somewhere, it is possible to use that.

Adding am Aux/iPod interface is possible with many factory fitted systems, see: Connects2

get a cheap headunit with aux in installed. they don't cost much.

fm is lousy sounding even if you get it to work. best to avoid it.

I just bought a new stereo for my car for 70 quid. it comes with an iPod port on the front (can also use a usb stick if you like). The stereo detects that it's an iPod and allows you to control it from the steering wheel stem. All you need is the usb cable that comes with the iPod.

For 70 quid I'm over the moon

Does your car have a tape player or just CD? You can get this to put in the tape deck:

You can get them almost anywhere and they cost nothing.

The newer Toyota Avensis has them, but the redesigned model doesn't . This will be something I will have to figure out once I get the new car. Not allowed a new head unit as it is a company car.

I do.

I think my car (new style Beetle) must have been about one of the last to still ship with one.

And I'm quite happy to stick with as:

1. As someone mentioned, the tape adapters are cheap and far more effective than an FM transmitter.

2. It's a tape deck. No-one wants to steal it ....

(Although it shipped with a tape deck in the head unit, it does have a 6 disc CD changer in the boot - factory fitted ..... which I never use any more)
