I think the bit in bold is true. Soap actors are a bit like temp workers. They get a pretty low flat rate salary and a top up hourly rate, so if they aren't seen on screen for two months of the show they aren't getting the top up hours which translates to them not being paid the large amounts many think. This is why so many of them do trashy PA's to top up their earnings.

I don't know, the pros make the show for me and I feel they should earn more especially when you see what the judges earn for much less work.

However, in the real world 30K for 5 months work at the most is really not bad.

Well the BBC might be digging their own grave here. If the dancers are only on 12 month contracts or one series contract. They might be approached by someone else and start up another show on the other side. Now would the viewing audience watch SCD when their favourite pro dancer is no longer there or watch the new program they appear on.

Then the viewing public who watch it becuase of the hosts or judges can do just that. Wonder what would happen to the rating then. Im sure the pro dancers have more of a fan base than the judges or hosts.

Just a thought.

I don't agree, when SCD started the vast majority of the viewing public had no idea who the pro dancers were. People watch it because of the whole package not any one person.

At the end of the day the BBC is like any other employer - it pays what it needs in order to get staff. I am thinking that there is probably quite a rich supply of professional dancers in the world that they could get for that money, so why pay more??

They must think (and I agree) that people wont stop watching cos a pro dancer leaves.

Have to say, I agree. If people just watched for the pro dancers than established pros like Flavia, Anton, Darren, Lillia and Karen would still be on the show and not been voted off. The star of the show is Strictly and if the BBC can get pro dancers for 30 grand, then that's what they will do. It's not fair, but when has life ever been fair?

Brendan would do well to concentrate on the job. Brian's performing at a higher level to him this series. I saw Cole on a dog show the other week - bizarre. I think he's lost his way a bit.

People have neither the time nor the inclination to research the forum everytime they wish to disuss something.

If Brendan didn't like the salary offered he should have refused to sign the contract. £30,000 for a few months seems quite a bit to me and I know a lot of people who would gladly work for £30,000 a year let alone 3 months. People on a lower annual salary than this manage to buy a car and also support a family as well. Stop moaning Brendan!

What, and there's only four judges?

I hadnt seen that, are the judges threatening to quit too unless they get more money??

But I think that the judges have more draw for the public than the pro dancers so yes, the Beeb might well take that into account and pay accordingly.

The BBC could pay pro dancers a MacDonalds scale of salary at £6 per hour (Nicole and Flavia were reported as saying the Beeb already do, considering the 100 hours per week they put in), and transmit MacDonalds quality.

But the BBC is not like any other employer. They were founded on a charter to uphold standards of information, arts and entertainment for the nation, not to maximise profits. Their income does not rely on the vagaries of advertisers. The United Kingdom until 15 years ago happened to be the world leader in ballroom dancing by a distance. Thanks to the demise of Come Dancing and no thanks to the BBC, the rest of the world caught up with the UK then galloped past us.

The Beeb does not stoop to Big Brother -- yet.

Hes a judge on that show Camilla is one of the dog handler's. I enjoy the banter between them sometimes. Never see that on SCD.

Are you serious??? There are many on here who would disagree with you and in fact many in the general public at large who would also disagree - most people watch strictly for the celebs and dancers/dancing NOT to see four people bickering amongst themselves and being unnecessarily rude to people way out of their comfort zone.

I for one would rather see the Pro's getting paid a much higher wage for the work they do than the judges who don't warrant it - there are plenty of other judges out there who are eminently more qualified to comment on the dances than these four.

I was only talking about the judges and pro dancers NOT the celebs.

I think that dance affecianados would obviously watch for the dancing, but I think the Beeb relies on joe public who wouldnt know a waltz from a samba to watch in their droves, and thereby make it feasable to keep on with the series. These viewers by and large are most interested in the celebs and in the acerbic and otherwise comments made by the judges.

I watch it for both the judges and Pro's and the dances
I dare care which celeb's are on.

I like the rudeness most of the time. I don't ever want to see X-Factor style judging when everyone 'made the dance their own' and 'owned' the dancefloor. Bleughhhhhh. I like it more to the point - but I think where there's a bad comment they should also add a good, to be fair. They are overpaid I agree

There should be a better balance in the SCD salaries considering it is an entertainment show and they are all a very big part of it. Giving top salaries to the dancers and not just the judges and presenters (grrr) would mean they can keep inviting only the very best quality dancers for us to watch and keep the show at the top. Makes sense to me

Compared to the judges and Bruce and Tess, the professional dancers seem underpaid. Hopefully the publicity from the show will ensure their careers in the future.
Before the show, I'm sure being a professional ballroom dancer was a hard life, and done because they loved it.
Maybe if they answer the judges back, they will deserve a raise? I wonder if Brendan would find that an acceptable change to his contract?

i'm not a fan of his but tbh i think he's got a point.

i know people will say well 30k for 4mths work is good going but its 24/7 and especially bearing in mind what the judges/presenters get.
