If Jonathan Ross was on SCD? Would he have been disqualified by now?

BTW - I don't think Wossy is popular with Brucey for making a bad taste joke about Kate and Anton at his birthday bash - although on a good note it probably helped prompt Kate to sue them.

I hope not, that would be a jolly good joke. I think suspending them is the best thing BBC did in many years.

I hope Bruce has a field day with this on Strictly.

After all, Woss often relies on other people's misfortunes to get laughs. Time the tables were turned.

I hope Bruce excels himself by managing to remember everyone's name and keeps his tedious jokes to a minimum.

Where does this idea that there is some kind of rivalry between them come from? As far as I can tell they haven't fallen out any more than Bruce and Tarbuck have.

(By the way Sid, taking the piss out of someone's speech impediment doesn't paint you in a much better light than the one you appear to see JR in.)

I would find their dismissal far more amusing than their prank.”

Completely agree with all.

The very thought of Jonathan (or Russell!) dancing in SCD - all feelings revolt! *cue in vomit emoticon*

The thought of Russell or Jonathan taking over Bruce... *shudders*

Much against my better judgement, as I find the pair generally extremely irritating, I listened to the clip...and laughed. Not at the initial Woss yell of 'he ****ed your granddaughter' but at the following parts, which were largely an attempt to apologise for the initial remark. However, I can see why Andrew Sachs wasn't laughing.

I don't think any of it was technically obscene (especially as Brand did actually bed the girl in question), and with a different target I think they'd have got away with it - but given to whom they were speaking it was pretty ill-judged and they deserve to be punished for overstepping the mark.

The granddaughter can shut up - if you sleep with Russell Brand, then you should be aware of his propensity for talking about his sex life and at least be savvy enough to think you might be in line for a bit of exploiting one day.

It wasn't a live show, so the broadcasting of the Ross/Brand thing is an editorial issue. The editor who chose to broadcast it should be suspended if anyone should. Love them or hate them, Ross and Brand were only doing what they're employed to do, which is push the boundaries of good taste. I think they overstepped the mark this time, but they both made personal apologies which takes care of the moral/ethical implications. The employment implications should be directed at the editors, not the performers.

Ross and Forsyth have a *stage* rivalry for heaven's sakes. It's not real. If Brucie thinks he can get away with a joke about it, he'll make one. If he doesn't, he won't. You never know, he might even misjudge it in the same way Brand and Ross did - and as Strictly is a LIVE show, it won't be the editor's fault at all!

Shouldn't this thread be in Showbiz?

It has nothing to do with SCD whatsoever. None of the people involved have any connection to the show. The fact that the OP raised a bizarrely hypothetical question about if JR was on SCD doesn't make it relevant.

Why is it under discussion on this forum?

Good point. Come to think about it, shouldn't all the fan threads about people who are not on the show be there, too? Talking about someone who once appeared on the show a year or three ago and now has a totally separate career doesn't seem terribly relevant, either.

Doubt I'll be losing any sleep over it

Yes my sympathies lie with Andrew Sachs. The granddaughter is no doubt revelling in all the publicity.

This thread has been closed as it is a hypothetical situation and therefore off-topic. Should you wish to discuss the issue in more general terms, you will find threads to do so within both the Broadcasting and Showbiz forums.

Thanks
