Richer sounds - best retailer for HD and Audio?

Does any one find that with Richer Sounds and the products they sell always end up being cheaper than other retailers no matter how hard you look?
Not to mention a 5 year guarantee is only 10% of the value of the goods , other retailers seem not only to charge more for the product but then 20%+ or more running into hundreds of pounds for a guarantee as well.

They also don't push cables that cost the earth and the staff know what they are talking about.

Has anyone ever had a bad experiance or is it fair to say they are a really good company?

they do a good deal, and buy plenty old stock. If you can put up with technology that is maybe a year out, then you will do OK

some stuff though is alledgely re-furb, and you have to watch. The thing is re-furb will probally last a long time, and just as good as new. The part that may have blown , could easily have been in a few isolated cases. They might have changed the part in a few hundred units and rolled it back out.

My only experiences with Richer Sounds are through third parties, when customers come in to buy something because they have had disastrous service from Richer. General problems are faulty equipment (normally on graded items), and totally inept sales staff, for example (and the most recent ones) selling Freeview only recorders for non-Freeview areas, despite been told this repeatedly.

Like any chain, experiences vary from store to store - and we only ever hear the bad stories - people never praise the good experiences.

If you say anything bad here about Richer, people jump on you from a great height but the fact remains, Richer are the largest purchaser of graded and old stock in the UK. I would suggest always checking what you're getting, and ensure it's in an original sealed box - if not it's graded stock.

Never had a problem with their C.S. I bought a brand new 42" Full HD L.G. LCD delivered by DHL (Fully lashed in an upright position for transport) Unpacked it, set it up, no less than 5 frozen pixels, (L.G. are Cr*p then! Cause it is if they think this acceptable) Rang Richer Sounds C.S. number, they told me to leave it with them, & we agreed a swap out for a 37" Full HD Panasonic LCD (Non 100Hz, as 100Hz is alot of cr*p) DHL came and delivered the new T.V. & picked up the L.G. cr*p. If I had bought the same T.V. from Currys I would be told that tha T.V. was fine and to just ignore the frozen pixels because L.G. said that this is not a fault.

I would agree with Nigel on his key point, they do stock alot of "last years model" stuff, but they do stock brand new current models, Pioneer's new LCD for example.

I recommended RS to a customer of mine. They spent £749 on a 42" Samsung PS42Q97HDX tv last year. After 2 weeks it went tits up and wouldnt turn on so RS sent out 2 engineers.

At 1st they took the tv away and said it would be repaired but I said b***ocks to this and told the customers to demand a replacement. They rang the branch (Notts) and spoke to the manager who arranged and delivered the replacement himself.

As Samsung had just updated their range he brought a PS42A457P1DXXU as the replacement, with 30,000 contrast ratio.

Cant really fault them for value for money and service based on this and previous experience, especially on Home Cinema stuff.

Have used RS for many years with only good experience but have to say they are not the bargain HiFi specialist that they used to be when they startes out now that they specialise in TVs. Their prices are still very competitive though and CS has always been excellent. Use mainly the Southampton branch.
