Andrew Castle injured

I know there is sometimes a tendency for SCD injuries to be over-stated in the media, but I either way I hope Andrew is OK to compete on Saturday. I was pleased to see him improve so much last week with Ola's help and thought they deserved to avoid let alone survive the dance off.

Apparently he's already stated he's going to compete and at worst he won't be able to do the knee slide he planned.

Well I saw him this afternoon and he wasn't limping. I'm sure it was one of these knocks that hurt like hell at the time but disappear with rest, ice and a couple of painkillers.

They train down the road from me btw - I just happened to see him in front of the dance studio when I was parking my car. I reckon he was having a much needed break from Ola

Well thats what happens when you try to do a knee slide whilst still being strapped to Ola!!!

I didn't realise a knee slide was a traditional Samba move? - looks like Ola is up to her old tricks again.

LOL - James could probably get away with it though

Oh dear, is Ola doing a Gethin-move - the knee slide?

Gethin did THREE (as far as I can remember) knee slides in his latin routine: Rhumba, Jive and I believe Salsa as well. Andrew is not as young as Gethin for one, and I almost feel knee-slide is Gethin's patent.

I also think he improved alot ast week and hope he competes

Talk about looking for the sympathy vote, we didn't hear about jodies broken rib til 10 days after she did it

Possibly that's down to the media and the circumstances rather than the individuals?

Jodie broke her rib?! I never knew that.

God, you know, this man is such a tease. I've been wanting him out from Day 1. I knew he would annoy me terribly, and lo, how he has! His moments in Tess' area are particularly grueling to watch. He reminds me of the relative at the table who always manages to kill the conversation.

Anyway, I thought my luck was in when he almost in the bottom two, then when he was in the bottom two this week, but alas! that wasn't to be. Now the forces of nature have thrown an injury in his path, and still he won't bleeding go!

Will Hell or high-water shift this man?

Ola and Andrew both broke their toes earlier in the comp and still performed.

Wasn't Aled the first with a knee slide?

Did you see when Andrew was on the floor and that he thought he'd done his knee in, Ola walked away? Just like when she broke his toes she said it was his fault because his foot was in the wrong place. It must be hard to work with this callous woman.

Unless Ola has some kind of 6th sense as to what someone else is going to do, it was his fault.
Maybe Ola finds that she gets the best results by being tough with Andrew? So far, he seems to agree with her methods, and he did his best dance last week, so maybe, despite the injuries, he will keep improving.

I agree - sportspeople are used to tough love and whip cracking - I think this is why they make good contestants on SCD that and being able to cope with pressure and working hard in spite of set-backs. Andrew says Ola always gives encouragement too.

Again I think we come back to media representations here. I suspect that Andrew at that point thought he had twinged his knee and when he said to Ola he'd done it in and was gripping it neither his voice nor face indicated he was in great pain, hence Ola didn't rush over to him as she might have if he'd been in more obvious distress.

I think he will stay just another week: to annoy the hell out of you.

No, I believe Brendan would like be the one who can lay this claim. But Gethin has THREE knee slides in his latin routine, one feels it's his signature move and should ask him for permission before they use it in their numbers.

Like Gethin's ballroom, not so thrilled by his latin (except his jaw-dropping salsa).

If the pros expect the learners to do knee slides they should provide them with some protection for the knees. Its bad enough trying to kneel on a hard floor surface, not to mind doing a slide on it.

The knee slide is not an appropriate move for someone who is no longer 21, and untrained at doing such moves; most dancers give up this move by the time they are considerably younger than Andrew........ sometimes it seems the pros forget they are dealing with beginners in Strictly.

Poor fellow is the perpetual walking wounded of this year's strictly. His legs looked clanky no matter how much he tried to shimmy to take our minds off it. Is he going to end up in the danceoff with John?

It wasn't such a good idea to get a 44 year retired tennis player to do a knee slide. It didn't end well.
It wasn't such a good idea to get a 44 year old GMTV presenter to dance the samba....

This was going to be a difficult dance for him to do. He's no Mark Ramprakash, but it was not embarrasing. I thought he did OK. Unfortunately it was a week when there is less dead wood left. I thought that overall, the judges had everyone in the right positions. If Andrew is in the danceoff, I hope John is in it with him.
