Poor Picture Quality
cylmax

Hi,

I have recently purchased a new TV, the Sony 40V4000 and connected this to my existing SKY+ box and a rediscovered DVD recorder in the form of a Tevion "special" from ALDI.

I just wanted to ask if the TV in question has a reputation for poor picture quality from SD inputs? The reason I ask is that the model I have replaced another Sony, which was inferior in every aspect yet had excellent picture quality when connected to the SKY+ box. My new set is quite grainy and a bit blocky when viewing straight from SKY. It's even worse when viewing via the Tevion as the picture appears frosty and blurred. DVD playback from the Tevion is also not the greatest.

Am I missing some setting on the TV or other equipment or should I replace the SCART connections with something else (s-video?) or better quality versions?

Thanks in advance.
Mark.

Oh, well, I didn't know there were different types so I can't answer that one. Sorry.

They came with the equipment so I doubt they are anything special.

you have to go into picture settings in your Sky box and set scart to RGB and DVD

so not as good as your rear projector toshiba then

Great news. That's something even I can do.

What does puzzle me is how on earth did you know that I used to own a Tosh Rear Projector? That disappeared with the ex over 4 years ago!

This TV has a very good reputation for SD quality, however remeber it's principle job is to convey HD TV. Also is this panel larger than the one it replaced? if so and your sitting in the same position it can look worse

As Niall says make sure the Scarts are set up for RGB & if things are still not up to scratch consider a slightly better scart cable than the freebies supplied. But please dont go the "Monster Cable" just get a well screened one, somethink like this; http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/CLEAROUT-PROFI...d=p3286.c0.m14
