Im just curious, all of them are excellent and since Matthew Cutler and Karen Hardy are my favourites im inclined to say them...

But I was wondering, there has to be someone who outstands all of them. Who is it?

Think it depends on you're taste. I really enjoy Vincent and Flavias choreography but I know that not everyone does.

My favourite is Vincent, and I think he consistently choreographs very interesting routines which suit his partners and which are nice to watch.

Again, a biased view

It's very much a matter of opinion isn't it - as you said yourself you favour Matt Cutler and Karen Hardy - others will favour Lilia Kopylova or Darren Bennett or Ian Waite or Camilla Dallerup etc etc. There is no one person who's more outstanding than the rest.

I don't mean this to be harsh it's just on a forum like this you'll never get a consensus of opionion.

My favourites are Brendan and Lillia. But I've also been REALLY impressed with Brian and Kristinas and James with Cherie has been brilliant. But its really down to personal taste.

The best choreographers for SCD will prepare a dance that shows off their celebs abilities (or lack of them) to the best!!

I like most of the pros, but this year Hayley - for me - failed in this regard, while Kristina succeeds massively.

IMHO, of course

I think they've all had their moments.

Nobody particularly stands out for me.

It's true that the best choreography is the stuff that's simple but makes the celeb look good, which makes things more enjoyable for everyone involved. Darren and Lilia's ability has always stood out for me here.

When they actually get a celeb who can dance, all the pros have a great routine in their brains - I thought Brendan's paso this week, for example, was fab, although I find he has more off-days than most when it comes to routines.

I don't enjoy it when the celeb is clearly not up to showing off the choreography properly, when you can see plainly that it should have been a great routine - Matt's paso this week was an example of that.

Anyone else think Vincent and Flavia are a bit 'chuck the kitchen sink' in their routines? They always seem to have about three steps that are harder than anything the other pros put into their dances!

Newcomer Kristina is really standing out. She's done a terrific job with John.

However, first prize goes to Vincent. I've always found his choreography to be exciting to watch.

Vincent is my fave - swiftly followed by Darren and Lilia. It's never formulaic and as Sid says - exciting to watch - which is exactly what we need with this current series!

I also agree that Kristina and Brian have both brought some great new style choreography to the show.

I have to commend Craig as he tends to be the judge who praises the Pros choreography the most.

I totally agree - I think it's great when the judges think to compliment the choreography and Craig definitely does it most.

Hi Mama

I also like how Craig welcomes contemporary and innovative styles of choreography.

I find Len's traditionalist approach a bit rigid and behind the times.

Very hard question to answer, because - as I said in a different thread - the pros are able to bring in outside teachers, to help, not only their celebs, but themselves as well. A Latin pro, for example, will often bring in a ballroom teacher, to teach them both routines and technique.

I think Darren always produces interesting choreography. There's always a story and a great movement to his dances. He uses musical accents really well.

Also, when Brendan gets a great routine together, it will be GREAT. Sometimes it goes horribly wrong with him, but I think most of his dances with Kelly were well-choreographed. The rumba, the tango, the AS and the VW were all interesting routines, even if the celeb dancing it wasn't particularly! I remember being particularly impressed with the spin he did on the VW.

And Ian. How could I forget?! He quite often does amazing choreography. Zoe's Tango, the quickstep with Denise, the AS with Jodie etc.

A lot of people on here really love Matthew's choreography, but I must admit I'm not crazy about it. I remember finding it all a bit "d, u, double l" in Series 4 and criticising him for it. I think it was Alesha's superb talent that made it interesting last year. That, or perhaps, his best choreography only comes out when he's working with someone like Alesha.

Best for me is Darren Bennetts (and by best, I mean choreographing a dance that best suits his partners ability and allowing even not so strong dancers to shine)

Hi Yourself Sid!

I like that Craig looks at the performance rather than nitpicking technique too much (alright, he does nitpick a bit and he can be a bit harsh!). Like he said about Jodie and Ian's paso being exciting - despite being a bit stompy.

I love to watch a dance which gets the old blood pumping when you watch it.

Off Topic - how fab was Lilia on ITT tonight? She talked a lot of sense!

Darren, Lilia and Ian have always stood out to me as being excellent choreographers: they always seem to choreograph routines to suit their partners' capability. Take Darren with Letitia for example, his choreography really seemed to play to her strengths. And Lilia managing to turn the likes of Darren Gough and Matt Dawson into credible dancers always astounds me. Honourable mention to Camilla too, but she's sometimes a bit hit or miss. I still think James Martin's tango was one of the most entertaining dances ever on Strictly! And I think Christina is fabulous. I'd love to see her with a partner who has natural ability- I think it could be amazing!

Some of the pros (I won't mention names, I'll probably get my head bitten off - the person I'm thinking of is rather popular ) sometimes look like they're showcasing themselves to mask their partner's poor ability. That annoys me!

Evening sexy

Everyone seems to be raving about Lilia's commentary and I missed it! Phone calls always come at the wrong time Am tempted to look it up on iplayer later.

And you're spot on - a dance is not just about the steps, it's also about the performance. Grumpy Len is sometimes so busy observing the couples' footwork, that he misses their interpretation of the music (Rachel & Vincent's VW is a case in point). Craig looks at the whole package.

I think my faves would have to be Erin (in ballroom, as someone else said) Lilia, Brian, Vincent & Kristina. Matt Cutler's done some great choreography too - especially some of his ballroom stuff which is slightly bizarre seeing as he's a latin specialist!

I find Brendan & Ian a bit hit and miss - some of their stuff is fantastic and others can be a disaster, especially Brendan.

I agree with whoever said that Hayley had rather failed on the choreography stakes, and I'm generally not that keen on Ola's or Camilla's either (she just seems to do the same dances every year, usually with her centre stage!) Having said that about Camilla though, her puppet tango was one of my favourite bits of SCD choreography ever.

For me it has to be Lilia and Darren because they choreograph their routines to suit their celeb partner, followed closely by Erin in particular this year with Austin, who is shining like a bright star and I really want him to win this year!!!!!!!

From Hayley
