Diana Vickers...
Anyone else a bit unsure about her?
I mean she is good at the stuff she has done so far, but its all a bit like Dido and Dido has not been all that successful! I also get the feeling she is not very versetaile. She seems to be able to make the song her own style but she only seems to have that one style! I am also unsure about the whole shoeless thing on stage, and the hand constantly on camera by her face, well just find it a bit offputting to watch, seems a bit too overworked sometimes!! |

I'm in agreement with the OP. I loved her at first, but bare-footed princess routine is really grating on my nerves now!
I wish that she'd put that bloody hand down too!

well most really successful artists are one trick ponies but that is their speciality they are not just good Karaoke artists. The barefeet thing was done by Sandie Shaw in the 60's and never did her any harm, she was the most succesful female artist of that era. the hands thing were done by Kate bush in the seventies much more than Diana does but there you go - you can't please everyone!

Well yeah you can't please everyone and it seems a bit preconceived to me, even more so now you say it has all been done before. Think she is trying too hard to be too different.. The hair, the hand thing, the songs, the barefeet the dress sense, changing the songs to suit her monotonous voice.. But well its working for her at the moment!!! So well done to her.... |

believe me it has ALL been done before - there is no longer anything new in pop music. Those days have gone. It's just whether people like the combination of infuences. A strong voice has never ever been a prerequisite in pop music, try opera for that.

There is something mesmerising about Diana...but in the manner of a rabbit being caught in a car's headlights. The things that grate, having watched her live performances, are the hand gestures and the woeful/weird diction, turning words into hitherto unknown sounds -"you" at the end of last Saturday's rendition became (to my ears, anyway) "chew". She does seem to be of another place. And barefoot little girl lost in A Bad Bad World just doesn't ring true. Only my opinion, of course! (I guess the styling and sets are down to others, so won't comment on the swing and flapper's frock last Saturday)

Yes it has all mostly been done before. But artists can still be themselves and bring something new to the plate, where as I feel with her she is trying a bit too hard to be unique by incorporating all these things as you say that have been done before into one and I personally don't really like this combination and that is why I say I don't understand why all the hype around her as she is not so different as people put it. Its also the fact that every YEAR they say the acts have to show that they are versetaile and all that but this year she seems like she doesn't need to do that and its ok as she has done the same sort of thing for 3 weeks, she turned the songs into her own version which is good but she only seems to have the one version for all the songs she gets... its just my opinion which doesn't count for much! |

see that's what bothers me...the fact thateveryone thinks she's unique, when as you said she actually has a similar singing style to artists such as dido. her fashion sense is not unique either-there are loads of girls sporting the "hippy" vintage look, and as for the no shoes-it's been done in the past, and not wearing shoes doesn't make you a better performer, or "quirky" it just makes people think you need to put shoes on!

she's a carbon copy of Amanda Jenssen http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=VLXm7Y2PIHM right down to the bare feet she is not unique at all, ot even in the Xfactor/Pop Idol world I still cant understand why people say she is

it should be about the voice not shoes, dresses or hand movements, and i happen to think she doesn't have the best voice this year-others may disagree and that's fair enough. |

Yes, she is original and has her own take on things, but that's not necessarily a good thing. She is too "alternative" for me, and there's something about her that is very off-putting for me.

Hello
![]() When someone asks me who Diana Vickers is. I have to tell them that it is the one with the pigeon that is caught in her hair All that flapping hand movement, you know. They know instantly who it is. The hand thing- will its notoriety start eclipsing her obvious talent? |
