I think it's cruel not to get two of the same pets.
How can you expect a cat to be happy when he does'nt have another cat buddy he can play with?

We got the cat, he's lovely but he seems sad and depressed - help!!!!

I think it is "nice" e.g. to adopt/get littermates etc. as TWO kittens, and SOME cats might appreciate "company", introduced at a later stage... but MANY don't! I don't think it's CRUEL that an Adult Cat be "solitary". I think it is entirely possible for an "owner" to provide sufficient company for any cat - Even in full-time work. I think felines simply "shut down" (sleep!), without stimulation, and don't feel "loneliness" in quite the same way as humans. And you can make the VERY BEST of the time you are together with your Cat, whenever you are home!

Being a rescue cat, he's probably had more than enough of other cats for a while! He can have all the attention and food to himself now!

One of ours is ok, if you put him on the couch he'll stay there, but only as he's too lazy to move unless you get his play-mouse.

Mine is a 'single' cat. She was a stray and didn't have a cat buddy when I took her in off the wild streets of North London, so that's how it is. I work f/t and at the moment, I can't let her out (she isn't jabbed and spayed yet) but once that's done she'll be able to go outside to play in the garden and make cat friends if she wants to. I'm not sure she'll be all that bothered though. She's quite a little madam and likes having mine and my husband's full attention - she checks we're watching before jumping about like a loon 'killing' her play mouse or play prawn! Cats are quite self-contained and they sleep a lot of the time anyway. But I've bought a load of toys for her anyway, like a working mum trying to buy her latch-key kid's love!
