"Reach for the stars" (by the way, I'm no teenie, I'm 34).

The reason I, and many people, championed Alesha was because she was a consistent and versatile dancer and because she came across as a lovely girl - she had a real zest for life.

Not for any of the reasons you've outlined above.

You've just proved my point.

I don't think this sort of show can be all about the dancing. That, of course, should be the main criterion but a couple's partnership or chemistry plus a celebrity's likeability factor will all contribute to making the dances more enjoyable. In other words, charisma (or perceived charisma) can make a great dance even better and vice versa.

Partly because Kelly was getting the dislike instead. Such things are often seen.

Also the the point about young, attractive etc women having a tiny margin of error is important. It means they aren't automatically disliked, but pick up dislike easily if they seem to have something "wrong". ("Wrong" can be as trivial as flicking their hair, or something that only some can "see" such as having "dead eyes" )

I've no doubt it's nerves, but that's something they all have, but the others are gradually learning to cope with them (or at least hide them). Lisa and Jodie were quivering wrecks in the 1st couple of weeks, but now manage to look confident.

Rachel needs to do the same; if she could develop and show some personality, then her dancing will be up with the other leaders!”

I think that's in part because the training clips don't have the swirling, swooping steadicam.

That is, of course, very true!

Even so, Rachel doesn't see the camera work as we do so it shouldn't alter whether she has personality or not! I hope the jive is a good dance for her, as I really like her.

I think that for some reason she is being over conservative and over concerned with coming across as too sexy or too accomplished.

she has had costumes that are all knee length
she seems underwhelmed when performing
her boyfriend is always either at her training or in the audience - putting her off?

It is a shame cos she appears to be quite talented but somehow she does not seem to be connecting and just doubting herself too much
i like her and vincent as a dancing couple and I hope that they pull it out of the bag for this week.

As to the OP's point, there have been tears and walkouts from all this year!

She was pretty poor tonight - no bounce at all in the jive & that should have been her dance - the routine was really quite tedious.

Very much liked her routine tonight. Thought she attacked things more than in previous weeks. She seemed to enjoy it more, too, though Len's remarks probably left her somewhat deflated.

I felt the spark was missing from that Jive and most of it reminded me of a previous jive by Vincent (and Louise)

You beat me to it and I'm in my late forties (no kids either to keep me on my toes) - I remember hearing that song in ASDA and flinging my arm in the air at the right moment LOL!

I think they did the CIN single one year too.

Didn't they have a kid's TV show too?

The jive was Rachel's best dance, it started really well and she was smiling and looking as if she was really enjoying herself - or at least pretending to, which, from the 'watchers' point of view amounts to the same thing.

But then it went flat and the sparkle vanished, not sure whether this was because of mistakes, or timing issues. Whichever, there were far too many 'stops' between moves, which made the routine look jerky. (Didn't think Rachel deserved to be above Jodie on the leader board.)

I think Alesha would have been popular (and won) regardless of Kelly's presence/absence.

We get to know them a very little. Either way I've still liked all the women mentioned ^.

But I'm not sitting at home over-analysing "hair flicking", "simpering", tantrums" & whether someone is "genuine" or not, because it's a complete waste of time.

I would't regard it as a waste of time because more often than not, it's a celebrity's personality that determines whether a person picks up the phone to vote for them or not.
