As some of you know, I have Treacle who is 15 wks now and Custard who is 18 wks.

The problem is I've been giving them Whiskers twice a day and the rest of the time dried Whiskers and a big dish of water.

Treacle has been having runny poops and now I've removed the wet food (meat pouches in gravy seemed to be too rich and now she's been given fish in jelly which seems to have slightly improved her digestion!)

Custard is happy to eat anything as he was left and battered on a street when CP rescued him and brought him to our loving home. It seems he's grateful for anything but his belly seems to be a bit swollen and his shoulder and leg bones are very bony! He eats well but his belly doesn't seem right. He is very content.

Our Treacle doesn't even bother washing her bottom, it seems she's very against the poops that she makes.

Do you think I should stop the wet stuff (they both drink water regularly)and then get some suitable food from the vets (as our deceased Poppy was only fed on the marvellous stuff and had a wonderful coat and digestion).

Any advice will be very very gratefully received,

Switch to a high quality dry - or a high quality wet if you can afford it

Royal Canin, Arden Grange, James Wellbeloved, Applepaws(wet), Fish4Cats.

Whiskers is the 'McDonalds' of the cat food world. Tasty, but not the best staple diet.

When you switch, make it gradual. A sudden switch can also lead to poorly tums.

ETA: do not pay vet prices for food - if you end up on Hill's, get it off the internet or PetsAtHome.

I recommend James Wellbeloved. My cat had problems with her stomach, but with this food she is fine. My cats love to have some Whiskers at the weekend. One sachet between two over two days.

Has custard been wormed a swollen stomach is sometimes a symptom of worms,and definitely use the internet for there food mine are on royal canin

Sainsbury's Paws is the best. It contains probiotic and helps develop good intestinal flora. It comes in three flavours for 2.38 for a pack of 12 pouches or two flavours for 2.35 for a pack of 12.

My Impossible Princess has a fantastic coat. The vets always comment on how silky and healthy it is.

OP I assume you mean you have been feeding them Whiska's kitten food?

My little one wont touch it personally.... We tried her with it, just to give her a bit of "variety" from dried food, but she sniffs it and that's it

I went with Science Plan, it pretty expensive - £16 for a big packet but that lasts us 6 weeks so that's £2.60 a week (for one kitten mind) We also feed her a little bit of wet food - she loves Sheba chicken breast, but as she is still young we only give her that very occasionally.

I have to say I thought I was being conned when the vet recommended Science Plan BUT I am super impressed. My little one is in perfect health (saw the vet on Sat!), she is very active, has great teeth and such a glossy, soft coat.... I plan to move her on to adult Science Plan when she is old enough.

I'd wean them off wet cat food completely. It has such a high percentage of water it's hardly worth feeding. As previously suggested feed a good quality dried food NOT Whiskas which has too high a salt content.

I feed either Hills or Pets at Home own brand which is similar.

They'll be fine on 100% dry food.

One of ours has never eaten wet cat food in her entire life (and shes about 9 now) and she's fine.

Currently, ours get a mix of James Wellbeloved and Royal Canin .... they seem to enjoy both. They used to get Hills as well, but they seemed to get bored of that.

I would recommend James Wellbeloved also. A 2kg bag is around £12.00 and works out cheaper than the likes of Whiskers and Felix etc. As someone as already said Whiskers is the feline version of junk food.

I Started my two on Whiskas kitten but soon discovered the Felix good as it looks which they loved.. now, 4 flavours, 28 weeks.. they're bored sensless with it ! They like the red mills dry food but wouldn't touch the royal cain. I recently found the science plan food in a pet shop, where they were selling the pouches for €1 each.. luckily they wre 2 for the price of one, so I got a few, and I swear they lick the bowl clean when I feed them one.. I'm trying to ration them, but they have tasted manna and won't have any or that other stuff now thank you very much ! Unfortunately they only seem to do 2 kitten brands in the wet food, which won't get me out of jail for very long ...

I try a mixture of wet & dry..

does anyone else give their cats the whiskas cat milk ? mine love it, but I'm not convinced its good for them ..

I didn't think any kind of milk was good for cats?

I only give my little one water on a day to day basis but let her have a dribble if we ever have any cream or anything like that. She seems to prefer her water

Nah, some cats have trouble digesting cows milk. But thats about it.

Have you tried white fish/chicken and gradually introducing cat food with mixer?

I got that go 8 week old cat kitten and tryin dry mix but yeh I drowned that in water which mine didn't really take to, whats the correct way to do it?

and also milk, I got that whiskas cat milk which seems to be wasted on my kitten but I always find him wanting some from my cereal (and times has managed to get a look in when I leave the room), is it ok to give him normal milk if he prefers it to cats milk?

no normal milk is not good for them it has to be catmilk or water

I have been giving him/her (god it's so hard to decide what he/she is at the min lol roll on the vets visit wed lol) water since he/she quite obviously stopped goin near the cats milk but he just loves to sneak a drink from my cereal bowl when I'm not around lol

but yeh back to my other question whats the ratio of water to dry mix do u add? I look on the box but it doesn't seem to say except on the front of the box about adding to water

You don't know the gender of the cat????? If there are no balls then its a girl

well I looked on the net at a pic of a male and female kitten an neither had balls lol and when I looked at the kittens I was like ok it looks like a boy then when I looked again I was like hmmm hang on it doesn't looke like either lol
