Pond Algae/Blanketweed - Advice Please

Wonder if anyone can help. I have a small starter size pond, Its a resin base, which since around March began to take on a dark green murky look and algae forming all along the edges.

I purchased weekly water cleaner from Pets at Home which after a few months made little difference. I then noticed what appeared to be blanket weed (long thin wispy green). I then purchased Pond Clear Plus and again after a few month of using, there really is not any difference.

I do have 2 healthy pond lillies to try to oxegenate it, it is too small to install a pump. It has several fish / toads etc.

Anyone any ideas as I think now my only option is now to empty, clean it and restart. If this is my option, what is the best way to avoid build up/recurrence again.

Thx

I don't think you can stop it, we have to treat ours a couple of times a year at least. Try a specialist koi farm, if there's one near you - they know more about pond stuff, and their products are generally better (but more expensive).

Thx for that, kinda had the feeling that was going to be the answer. Pond Clear had been recommended to me by such a source. Thx for help.

Blanket weed is a curse. I have a pond with fish 6 m x 4 m and tried everything to rid it of blanketweed without success, until I installed a large filter with an ultra violet lamp both twice the size I needed for the pond and it worked I get no blanket weed now and a clear pond.

I had previously tried filters of various types over the years that were about the recommended size for the pond but this large one combined with the lamp does the job very well.

This is OTT for the small pond of the OP perhaps but it might come in handy if someone has a larger pond with the same problem.

I did buy one of those pressurised all in one round type filters with lamp that was buried in the ground and found that it was next to useless that was several years ago though they may have improved them since.

Yup, the ultra violet light was suggested , you are right, pond is a tiny little one & not viable. guess I know what i'll be doing at the weekend then. Emptying & scrubbing pond by the sound of thing in prep for winter. Thx.
