Brit Awards 2004
I've puzzled about what they're going to do with the Brit awards this year. What exactly is the 'catchment' are for eligible albums and artists?
As far as albums go, I think for the 2004 awards it's a Aug 02-Nov 03 zone for albums, which means that, say, 'Escapology' by Robbie, which came out in Nov 2002 is eligible for Best Album THIS year as opposed to LAST year, when he won Best Male on the strength of it. Does this mean that he can win Best Male again THIS time with a year-old album that he's already been technically judged on? Is it really true that his EMI deal guarantees a certain amount of Brits? Who's your tips for Best Band this time? I'm saying........ The Coral (token NME band, no chance of winning) The Darkness (mega-popular, complete shoo-in) Busted (token pop to keep 'the kids' tuned in, like Blue and Sugababes last year) Big Brovaz (token urban act) Radiohead (token arty/serious band thrown in as a bluff) Muse? Blur? Maybe a bit 2 leftfield for ITV....... |

Can't The Darkness qualify for Best Newcomer band or something??
IMHO, i think they'd stand more of a chance in that catergory. |

Here's a stream of consciousness, in no particular order, for the likely eligible shortlist for best band nominations:
The Darkness The Coral The Thrills Coldplay Radiohead Blur Travis (new album coming out) Athlete Feeder Busted Liberty X Girls Aloud Big Brovaz Blazin' Squad (awful i know, but still) S Club 8 (i expect them to be pretty huge by early next year) And for solo artists: Dizzee Rascal Jamelia Will Young Daniel Bedingfield Rachel Stevens Robbie Williams Whoever wins Pop Idol Whoever else hits the gravy train post-Pop Idol Alex Fame Academy Dido Beth Orton Amy Studt As for the overseas artists, it's pretty much a straight fight Males: Justin vs Sean Paul Females: Britney vs Madonna vs Christina vs Avril (vs Kelly Clarkson?) Band: Good Charlotte vs Linkin Park vs B2K vs Black Eyed Peas |

I hear you on a few of these, but....
Coldplay won last year, haven't had any new material out since. Same goes for Feeder-no new songs. The Thrills are Irish, and therefore illegible I think. Avril? Again, what would you judge her on? Kelly Clarkson-now theres one I'd overlooked-19 Management, Fuller, wouldn't argue with them. In the same way, Annie Lennox should get a Best Female nod. What about Strokes, Evanescence, Whire Stripes, Kings Of Leon for Int Band? 50 Cent? |

They usually have at least one old artist in the running just to even it out. Last year it was Alison Moyet.
This year my guess is Annie Lennox. |

As a huge dance fan, I was outraged last year that the SUGABABES of all people won best dance act. How in anyway, shape or form can they be considred dance? To me (and to millions of clubbers) dance acts are the likes of Paul van Dyke, DJ Testio, and Chichane.

But I still maintain that Sugababes are not dance. And I quoted the above three as an example. Just cos you don't like dance doesn't mean other people don't either. So ner to you! Although, millions may have been a slight exaggeration. |

It sucked balls post 9pm Till I Come. Suddenly it was full of dumbass Crasher kids with their copies of Now That's What I Call Superclubbing Vol 4 and their shitty hard house rubbish. A sad end to a great club night.

It looks as though Gareth Gates will be nominated for the Best Single (most sales?) as Spirit in the Sky has still sold the most.
