Connecting Sky HD to LCD - no Audio
swgf
01-11-2008
Have an Acer LCD TV which has DVI input, so I can get picture OK. However there is no sound. The only audio inputs on the TV are through two scarts (AV1 and AV2), and via the red/yellow/white cables (AV3, AV4).

However I can only choose one input for the TV, which is "DVI" for the picture, however the audio will have to come through AV3 or AV4. But the TV cannot do both.

Any ideas guys?

there is uaually a 3.5mm stereo input along with the DVI connection. Buy a lead to connect this to the phono outputs of the sky box.

Are you sure you havnt missed it?

Whats the model number of the tv?

As DVI only carries video, not audio, there is no TV in the world which would have a DVI input without an equivalent audio input. Almost certainly the ususal red and white stereo RCA cables.

Correctly implemented, DVI does carry HDMI sound and vision. It is called HDMI over DVI.

But I'm not sure whether his computer supports this. You need a properly configured DVI output, and a DVI-HDMI converter. Current Radeon and nVidia computer video cards do.

The Radeon has an inbuilt digital audio processor, and nVidia take a feed from an independant soundcard (which includes on-board (motherboard) audio devices). Compliant video cards would usually include the correct adapter in the box. If not, you may need to contact the card's manufacturer.

You seem to be talking about computers and soundcards and motherboards. The OP is talking about connecting Sky HD to a television. Not the same thing at all.

No, they are talking about BOTH - and as suggested, a DVI socket on a TV doesn't carry sound, it requires a separate audio lead.
