Stevie Wonder is a friend of Alex's Mum

Talk about connections, got this from paddy power

That's Just Wonder-ful

"I just called ... to say ... I think that wasn't the right song for you and that Dannii one is a bit of a cow. And I mean it from the bottom of my heart." That's possibly, but almost certainly wasn't, the gist of what Stevie Wonder told Alexandra Burke on one of his helpful phone calls to the X Factor hopeful. Alex's mum Melissa – who was in 90s band Soul II Soul - revealed that Mr. Wonder is a friend of the family since a chance meeting in a London bar several years ago and he regularly calls with advice. "Stevie knows about her success on the show and he's been tuning in when she's on," Melissa explained - deeming it unnecessary to add "if he can find the remote." With Alexandra getting advice from a Motown legend, you'd have to Wonder if she's nailed on to win the X Factor.

They should have a Stevie Wonder night in my opinion, best artist to have lived in my opinion.

All this says to me is that Alex has even more pressure on her to succeed.

It makes some sense as to why Alex comes over a bit intense sometimes. Nothing worse than being in the shadow of a successful parent.

Oh no. 'I Just Called....' has to be one of the worst ever songs written, IMO. Some of his other stuff is ok.

Yeah that song is not brilliant, but most of his songs are master pieces.

Anyway it all goes to show how easier it is to get on a programme like xfactor if you have connections

I never 'got' Stevie Wonder at all and completely agree with Zip about I just called..... It's dire.

I loved Alex in the beginning and I still think she has a great voice but, like Austin, her intensity puts me off a bit.

That is a very unfair and suggestive thing to say. SW will have had zero to do with this.

Alex didn't get through to XF2 with her connections, did she?

Alex is an excellent singer. She is well able and doesn't need connections.

Well with Stevie Wonder as a connection if she was really that good, surely he could have helped her get signed

That's a bit unfair.

Actually Duane Lamonte "grew up" with Leona Lewis and "their families are close" and he didn't get past bootcamp so there's your theory out the window.

This is so unfair. Maybe the connection is hardly there....maybe Alex is independent?

Well he's phoning her up each week giving her advice, I doubt any of the others have superstars phoning them each week giving them advice so it just come over a slight advantage for her

She does have a great voice, let's be fair. It's not as though he's given her lessons - is it?

Woah!! Just wait a minute there. Where does it say, 'each week'?

And it's hardly an advantage when the main crit of Alex is that she is getting rotten songs. The girl is an excellent singer. She hardly stropping at Cheryl, demanding her song choices be changed, 'cos Stevie said so'.

Yes, it's clear she's easily good enough to have got to the live shows and even to win. She hasn't been voted out in the first week for sounding like Cheryl Cole.

It does make you wonder (oops) why she is messing about with such a hit & miss way of trying to get a recording contract.

A Stevie Wonder night? I'm sure Austin would be happy with that!
