Len was needlessly harsh. I prefer Rachel to Louisa, who i found irritating. Her jive may not have been as good, but what happened to 'encouraging not criticizing' in Len's own words?

I loved it! But it's quite clear that the judges have their own agenda! They have certain people that they want to be in the final so they undermark any serious threats (like Rachel) and overmark the likes of Tom! That's why the dance off is a joke!

Why do people assume the the jive is their dance? Rachel may be temperamentally better suited to ballroom. I think she is.

I had such high hopes for her this week. My vote went to Jodie......She demonstrated how to lose yourself in the dance!”

But none of the others completely let go, so why does Rachel have to?

I'm not convinced that Jodie lost herself in the dance. What's supposed to be the evidence that she did? I liked Jodie's dance, but I don't think it was any better than Rachel and Vincent's Viennese Waltz last week.

Anyway, I wonder, as I have all along, whether Vincent is making the choreography slightly too difficult, so that it requires a bit too much concentration from Rachel while they're dancing.

compare rachels jive to austin and more so to previous series jill etc and it was poor and it makes me feel she shouldn't have a chance to win altho i do like her

i agree, rachel has not been given fair marks at all, tom has been overmarked for the last few weeks!!!!

I guess where I disagree with most is that I truly believed that Rachel did let go this week.

She convinced me anyway!

I'm not suggesting her performance warranted 10's (like Louisa who was born to Jive), but I thought it was worthy of two 8's and two 9's.

if tom can get 2 9's last week and this week, rachel def should have got t least the same as she was better both weeks!

I was all ready for this dance as I enjoy watching Vince do his Latin thing, but I felt a bit robbed at the end. It seemed a bit flat to me, I cannot put my finger on it but somehting was missing for me. Come on Rach I am conviced there is the most amazing dance waiting to burst out of you and knock me sideways.

Jill's jive may be the benchmark to which all celebs strive - but most paled into insignificance in comparison (Louisa came close) - so it's hardly fair to draw a comparison between Jill's and Rachel's efforts.

She doesn't have an edge when she dances that makes you want to watch her.

I think the judges are being pretty harsh to them though.

Mind you, I'm not blown away by any of them this year.

Last year, it was different. I couldn't take my eyes off Alesha right from the beginning. At times Matt di A and Kelly grabbed my attention too.”

Yes but she's not up against Alesha or Kelly or Zoe or Natasha or even Emma and Louisa and the same comment could be made about most of this year's celebs. The better dancers in a series with no big personalities should be getting teh marks. Cherie has been in acting mask mode from day one. Heather is far more vacant. Lisa can hardly be described as more lively. Tom's acting is practice for panto. The only one who can dance who clearly is projecting much more personality is Jodie and she is being marked on some other scale too.

I think when people say that they are going by their training footage on ITT (which did look really good) and probably mean out of all the latin dances the Jive should suit her the best. I agree with you that she is more of a ballroom girl, now her VW THAT was undermarked!

Vincent choreographed a less lively, but difficult jive. I think it may look better on repeat viewing. I haven't recorded it, so I'm just guessing on that.

If anything I thought she was overmarked.

Just watch Louisa's jive from a couple of years ago and see the difference, much more bounce.”

I watches Lousia's jive again, and I thought it came across as livelier and more eneegetic. Also Louisa "projects" more personality. But ... Louisa and Vincent's marks were 8, 9, 9, 10. So there was plenty of room to mark Rachel and Vincent lower, and to think they weren't as good, without being as negative as Len.

(I thought there were flicks, btw, and also that Rachel and Vincent's jive seemed better when I watched it again that it had during the show.)

I think so too. A lot of the music choices this year have been poor, imo, and often seem too slow. The muisical choices last year were much better, imo.

Edit: Just saw this post:

Yes, that's how it was for me.

Not so, there was an interview in the Radio (or TV ) Times before we saw one dance on screen and he had her about fifth. The people he mentioned as being above her are the ones he keeps on giving 9s and now 10s to. it makes you wonder if the marks were written two months ago.

There is a reason not to promote her as you want to avoid the Emma marking effect but if the alternative is a final between Tom and Austin and Lisa I would work on building Rachel's confidence to at least make it competitive.

In every single dance I have seen Rachel dance, ballroom or otherwise, she has not "convinced" me of her performance. I have never felt "engrossed" in her dances.

Vincent and her are both of small stature, which usually means they are better suited to Latin dances, particularly the Jive, due to the precise nature of the flicks and kicks, so by this I assume they will suit the dance, plus seeing the training footage midweek made me think this also.

I think that everyone has to let go, and I have said this about Heather this evening. To convince the viewing public of their performance, they have to give it total welly. If they do not "let go" they may as well not be there at all.

I do agree with you about Vincent's choreo though. The same happened with Louise Lytton. He needs to pare it back to make the most of her skills. Which she undoubtedly has.

I think Rachel has run of time now

There's no way she can win this thing. She needed a stand-out performance tonight to be in with a shot. She's only getting left behind

And my other favourites Christine, Cherie and John aren't faring much better

My goodness, I hope we're not heading for a Lisa/Tom final showdown. I don't think I could cope!

I think Rachel will be safe for the next few weeks. I think that Cherie and Heather will leave before she does.

Surely you weren't expecting John to make it to the final stages Sid.

One thought did cross my mind last week - Rachel's ballerina length dress showed all her footwork - never seen anyone else similarly exposed.

Brave girl.

Heather - another of my favourites!

I think I'm backing the wrong people this year

Unless Jodie can produce a decent Latin number....

I don't think the music or the choregraphy did her any favours.

Tonight was the first time I didn't vote for John (and not just cos I was out during the show! I wouldn't have done anyway). I think his time is coming to an end.

But I did have very high hopes for Rachel. I think her footwork has always been pretty competent in the judge's eyes. Despite her best efforts, they still don't find her engaging enough though. I'm not sure she has much more emotion and fight left in the tank after tonight. I know it's become a bit of a Strictly cliche, but perhaps an acting coach is in order? (I feel I'm clutching at straws now).

I think it's high time John went followed by Andrew. After that I think it will be Heather, although I have always liked her. Christine has been a favourite too, but I can't see her making the final stages. Cherie's ballroom will always be elegant, but her latin will never be strong enought to carry her to the final stages (imo).

I love Jodie (though her latin may also be her Waterloo). Lisa has grown on me so I'm probably looking to her to make sure it isn't an Austin/Tom final.

Yes I like Austin But I don't feel as passionately about him as I do some of the others (or indeed past champions that I've got behind).
