Nokia N95 8gb - the questions they keep a' coming.
I've just got a 95-2.
I've been trying to sort out the email settings and just can't get them to work. I've apparently got both my gmail and googlemail accounts registered but when I try and access them through the messaging bit - it says "packet data - packet data connection not available". I thought setting this up would automatically send emails from my gmail account to my phone. More than that - as I say in trying to sort the email issue out I got both gmail and googlemail on the list of 'mailboxes'. I don't want both -just one, so how do I delete one off the menu? I'm aware there's a similar topic posted a bit lower down the page but I thought this was sufficiently different to warrant this little offering. Also I can see me having further probs due to being less technologically gifted - as a result this can be my 'Nokia N95 8gb for Dummies' thread. |

The error message means that you have not set up your internet settings correctly or there is a network problem in your area. As for the two mailboxes, if you have two email accounts you will need two mailboxes.
There are two ways to have one combined mailbox. On the gmail website, use the forwarding option to forward mail from one account to the other. The better option is to use an email agregating service like Mail for Exchange, Blackberry Connect or Nokia Mail. You can get details of these on the Nokia website. I would first of all contact your operator, to make sure there are no netwrok problems in your area and to have the internet settings sent. Last edited by prking : 02-11-2008 at 08:28. yes in the mail settings you need to select the correct access point.

Right ok - spent the last couple of says trying and re-trying things out.
I deleted both of the email mailboxes I'd created and decided to start again folloing the instructions on THIS website. I follow them to the letter and yet still no emails sent to my phone (from gmail account). Moreover when I try and manually connect no matter which access point I use it just keeps me waiting and never connects. And if I could ask what is maybe a dim question - it sometimes asks me what access point I want to use when connecting to the internet etc (not just this email issue). I get the difference between WLAN and the rest but what's the difference between 'contract email', 'contract WAP' and 'contract internet'? There's also the topic of getting videos onto the phone I want to talk about. Just how is it done? Again I've tried to follow the instructions but to no avail. I know it's a question of 2 parts: 1) The phone doesn't support all formats of video - so it's no use me trying to upload my entire porn collection which is mostly in MPEG format. SO if I want to do that or put a DVD onto it I'll need to change the format. THAT is the first part... 2) Then there's the actual step by step proceedure of how to actually get it onto the phone so I can watch it. Cheers. |

You may have the wrong port numbers for the GMail accounts. Try checking them here http://mail.google.com/support/bin/a...87&topic=12920
I use gmail on my Nokia and have no issues with accessing 2 different accounts. |

Have you had a look at the Google Mail application that you can download to the phone? No need to frig about with email settings, just download the app, install and then enter you google username and password.

Thanks. Before I tried what BT@home suggested I'd tried a number of things and none of them worked.
I had things sent to my phone althought I'm not sure it the googlemail thing you're talking about. In any case - it's actually working now. Thanks to all for the help. BUT!!!!!! My little thread isn't going to end there. How to load video is the next topic for everyone to make me feel stupid about. |

Install and use Nokia PC Suite, it will automatically convert video and transfer it to your phone.

I've installed that but still can't see what it does effectively.
I click on it - then click on the 'connect' button. My phone then asks me what sort of connection - I choose presumably 'PC suite'. Then what? I click on the camera image and it gives me the option of firing up the 'lifeblog' thing. |

OK - a bit of fiddling with this PC suite thing and I've figured out I can ignore the lifeblog thing and drag and drop files into the pull down screen.
However what then? how do I get them from there to the phone? And do they go directly into the video folder on the phone? |

I'd edit these posts if it gave me chance but I leave it too long.
However I've sorted it!! Hurrah! I hear you all cry. The problem was I was trying to do things using the piece of crap CD that came with the phone. Uninstalled that then got the proper Nokia suite from the site. Works well. Only thing is how to make the video go only to 'my videos'. At the moment it goes into the gallery and also to 'my videos'. Is there a way to make it skip the gallery? |

They are just two different views of the same file. Not two copies of the file.

As a default do videos get stored to the phone memory or mass storage? Quote:

I want to be able to load a few dvds of, say, family guy etc so I can watch them on my phone but also be able to hook them up to a tv when I arrive at my destination. |

(open to all not just flagpole lol) I've downloaded the opera mini browser - is there a way to bring it to the main page rather than have it only in the applications folder? The same goes for Nokia internet radio. Can that be moved to the front too? Does anyone know how heavy the usage is for that application? And back to a question I mentioned before - what's the difference between the access points? Do some have more of an effect on data usage? For example, internet radio I've just downloaded asks how I want to connect - but I can successfully do it using different access points. If given a choice what should I choose for various operations? |

Opera Mini uses less data than the phone's browser because it uses Opera's computers to compress the data. This also makes loading pages much quicker. Opera reckon tha, on average, it will cut your data to 20%.
You can move the Opera Mini (or most other icons) in two ways. Either highlight Opera and the press 'Options' and select 'Move to Folder'. If you want Opera to appear on the active-standby screen, you can change the settings under "Tools". The different access points depend on your service provider, they may provide one optimised for Streaming Media, for example. Or they may charge differently for WAP and internet access. |
