Did anyone else think the sight of John Sergeant begging the public to keep him in "for just one more week please so I can lose some more weight" was totally nauseating?
I know his fan club will say he was only joking but this
nonsense of voting for him so he can lose weight is ridiculous.
If he wishes to lose more weight then let him join a gym.

It is supposed to be a dance contest, according to Len, who is the head judge, so he should know.

I think he was just pulling off a joke there. He may not be the best dancer there but he's enjoying himself and his dances are always entertaining so I'm happy if he stays in the competition. We need an entertaining dancer there really who isn't taking it all too seriously.

hiawatha, who is voting for John? They are voting so they can see more of Kristina, who would have made an outstanding partner even for Gethin.

They should take a picture then And have you seen Anton? He was voted off at the beginning and it feels as if he never left As for John, I don't like him. He's neither dancer nor entertaining for me.

So why are the public allowed to vote? And why are there so many "fan threads" on here with people posting about their favourites?

Agree about Kristina, what a corker!

I think if John stays much longer he will lose the goodwill of a substantial section of the audience. He is being led round the dance floor.

I have been told on another thread that it's the celebrity's own fan base that counts. Just look at the pros who have gone out.

I think that the eventually John will be in the bottom two and will go. It isn't as if he has retained his place at the expence of someone who is pretty good, everyone who has gone so far have been poor dancers too.

What marks John out from the other poor dancers is the wonderful kristina, with her clever choroegraphy, and personal charm. But she won't be able to keep him in until the final, IMO.

Um, I believe last night was the first time John has made such a plea, though he has commented on ITT that he's losing weight.
And at least it was an original plea. I do get so tired with 'oh I want to stay, I'm loving this so much, I just want to stay so I can do (insert any dance name)', etc. They're nauseating.
And I doubt that any people are voting for John just so he can lose weight.

Indeed, Weightwatchers ought to give him a medal for aspiration. To lose two stone in one week, ten out of ten.

I agree, as long as none of the "good ones" are being ousted because of him I have no problem with him staying in the competition. And as you could see on the VT before their dance people are enjoying HIS enjoyment of being on the show and that's probably why they're still voting for him.
However I do feel the supply of "bad ones" is fast running out so I don't think he'll survive for much longer.

Other than John, there are still 2 of the weaker dancers left in (hopefully, one of them will go tonight).

The real problem starts if those 2 are voted out this week & next, & John is thenstill saved from the bottom 2 the week after. That will leave the judges needing to choose between 2 of the better dancers. Then wait for the sparks to fly!!!!

John 'dances' (and I do use the term loosely) with such joy that it's uplifting to watch.

I'd rather he was there, trying his very best, than some of the sleepwakers on the show. If the arguement stands that it's the fanbase, not fans of dance, keeping him in then you've got to hand it to him for growing a bigger fan base than Andrew Castle etc. John and Kristina must be doing soemthing right.

As for his 'plea', it was a lot more interesting than the usual "You have to vote for me because I want to dance the (insert dance) next week".

What a great post!
John is so obviously having a wonderful time learning to dance, which just shines through, and makes me smile. He and Kristina seem to have a really good partnership.

While I love his entertaining dances and his relaxed attitude to the competition, I do think it's unfair if he stays in while better dancers have to leave. Perhaps if he has just one more week like he said and then goes?

I have to say to the OP, get a grip! Why is it somehow awful for John to say that he wants to stay in to lose weight (which for god's sake was clearly a joke) but not for the typically insipid 'oh i want to stay in because I'm enjoying it so much and i really want to do it for my partner.'

Why is it that some people seem to need to take offence where none is intended. And if people are prepared to vote for him, whether because of his joking or otherwise, good for them.

At which point he will not garner sufficient public votes to remain out of the bottom two - and would the judges then save him?

A self-fulfilling prophecy, which will come to pass when the time is right.

You mean, he voluntarily withdraws (other than through illness/injury, I was not aware that this was an option)

Or in reality when the public decide to no longer vote for him?

Yes, it's the public again.

Exactly. Everyone is getting ahead of themselves. I'm sure John won't make it into the last few rounds and doesn't expect to. Unless someone really good goes instead of John then I won't be too upset if he gets through to the next week.

Yes - like 'the public will keep me in,' was also joking.

And before anyone jumps on my back - John admitted it was a ploy he learned in the political world.

Well given that he actually needs the public vote, then its only right he should try and win it.

He will go as soon as he is in the bottom two anyway so for now, I am happy to be entertained by him and his stunningly gorgeous partner.

Do you really believe that John's fans picked up their phones to keep him in just so that he could shed a few more pounds?!

No, he brings joy to millions with his charming performances and lively character behind the scenes. That's why we are voting for the guy in our droves.

His time will be up soon. I can't see him outlasting the better dancers (and by that I mean real contenders). Let's just enjoy him while we can.

Entertainment like John doesn't come along very often. I intend to savour every moment. He's been the highlight of Strictly series 6 so far.

If John could only straighten his posture he would look so must better. Must remind Kristina in her thread.

He was saying that he is almost at a two stone loss and with another week's training, would be there - he has been losing steadily since the live shows started.
