I'm trying to get Mobile Broadband in an area with poor signal.

Orange = No
T-Mobile = No

So I'm now looking at 02, Vodafone and Three. According to their online coverage checkers, we should be able to get it out there, however, this obviously isn't a 'real world' check.

Is there anyway I can use find out what the real world speeds would be? I can probably borrow an 02 and Vodafone SIM card, not too sure about Three.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Get a PAYG sim card? Three sell them for £1.

3 allow you to try their mobile broadband for 48 hours. Check their terms and conditions for details on their website.

If there is no T-Mobile signal then 3 may not be available either as they are now combining their 3G networks. Worth a try though but dont expect a mobile broadband service to be anything like as fast as a landline or cable regardless of the hype in the advertising.

I took my BlackBerry out there today, and there seems to be a strong Vodafone signal (It allows you to see what networks are avaliable in the area).

I've also been told that Vodafone are the fastest Mobile Broadband provider, is this true?

Also, does anyone know if the 'Pro' USB Stick is worth the extra money/longer contract? It offers 2 Mbps upload compared to 384Kbps. Will this make much difference in browsing speeds? Both are 'capable' of 7.2Mbps.

Vodafone have a limited amount of 7.2Mb/s coverage presently but they have some and that is better than others.

3 and T-Mobile are now rolling out upgrades to their network which will also provide 7.2Mb/s.

The speed is dependent on range from cell sites and number of users etc so beware the hype!
