Advice on upgrading current HDTV

The HDTV i got was from Argos. Last on the shelf so rather than the catalogue price of £499 i got it for £369 including the Argos 6 month warranty and LG 1 year warranty. When i got it home and done some research on it i saw that the TV was only 6 months old. Which meant what the guy told me was true...after 6 months they stop selling old models.

I dont remember the exact model number but i could get it if needed. Its a 32" with freeview, 2 HDMI ports etc. The reason i got it was to watch blu-ray movies and play games on my PS3. I dont have SKY HD or anything so my only chance to watch stuff in HD is the blu-rays. My collection isnt huge so ive not really got any movies that would really show off the benefits of HD. But im really thrilled with the gaming.

Basically i hope to upgrade to Sky HD in the near future. Im a big sports fan and i know that when watching sports they are broadcast in 16:9 so the entire screen is filled with picture. So i got one sports blu ray DVD which looked good. When i sat on my couch which is maybe around 8-10 feet away i couldnt tell much of a difference. The closer i sit however the better the picture is. With me planning more blu-rays nearer Christmas im gonna have all these movies in so many ratios. No idea how thick or small the black bars are gonna be, how much picture is gonna be available to me on a 32".

I was just wondering how people felt about this? If i was to upgrade to a higher spec TV would the picture make that much difference to me? Is it like SDTV where the bigger the screen the more flaws are visible in the picture? Obviously deep down i know its gonna happen, i will at some point go for a bigger TV. The set is also 1080p if thats any help. I dont know if thats much good on a 32" set. Dont get me wrong im happy with it. Im even looking into buying a home theatre system to go with it.One of those HD ones. Or am i best just leaving it a few more months until the prices drop and maybe better deals are on the market.

At your viewing distance and screen size you don't need a 1080 line display but obviously you will see more as you sit closer.

The biggest difference between a good set and a cheapo is in the SD performance, it's much easier to handle HD as there is less processing involved. Given that you are happy with what you have it doesn't seem to make that much sense upgrading but if you do then I would suggest a bigger set - a 42" 768 screen or a 50" 1080 line screen.

what difference does 768 or 1080 screen have? Isnt that like downgrading?

It depends on the viewing distance - to see any worthwhile difference you need to be VERY close.
