I've watched and re-watched both these jives over the last 24 hrs. And Len's right Rachel's jive is lacking that certain something. it doesn't have the bounce,sponteniety or fun aspect of Louisa's. So I've come to the conclusion it's because Rachel has a bigger bottom than Louisa

I think it's more a case that Louisa had a much bigger personality.

She was simply wonderful to watch.

Hers and Jill's were the best two jives ever on SCD, FACT

Louisa was always an absolute joy.

She's more than 10 years older.........teens do bounce more.

The comparison isn't very useful as Louisa was one of the best at that dance. The issue is whether Rachel should have got 8s and 9s and ended up with a couple more marks rather than if she deserved a 10. There wasn't any explanation of what was wrong if anything technically and Lens moaning that it wasn't dynamic enough was countered by Bruno saying it was.

Personally I though that Rachel showed us how good Louisa was.

That was one of the only dances that Louisa was any good at. Overall she was a bit blah.

I partly agree, but she was still better than Emma Bunton.

Emma's dancing annoyed me a bit. I think it was the lines she made - they seemed to be the same in every dance or something. Someone on here said that she "danced by numbers". I tend to agree with that.

Just providing you with the facts. It fine to say that you didn't like her, but not that she wasn't any good.

It was one of the few dances that she shone in. Otherwise, she was competent enough but blah. The sarcasm in your first post suggested that my opinion wasn't good enough. I'm glad that you're finally letting me express it x

To repeat myself from another thread, I actually fail to see the point of a comparison. The contestants should be compared to the standard required for the dance - technically, artisitically etc and for their own improvement. Even to base marks against what others have achieved in that particular show seems a bit daft to me.

Hard enough to do the dance, let alone wonder how you compare to some other random celebrity from a few years ago.

I don't post often but read a lot and this is one of the things that sets my teeth on edge (there are a few more about the show in general and this forum as well); in fact, it gets even more ridiculous when further comparisons are made between dancers of the opposite gender in Dancing with the Stars (I mean - what?).

Bruno does have a soft spot for these little ladies, doesn't he?

Never mind technique for a minute. Louisa's jive was fast and furious with loads of bounce. The couple made you want to get up and join in. Rachel just doesn't have that vitality. Her flicks from the knee were non-existent too!

Comparisons are interesting because they reveal marking issues and maybe some heightened degree of subjectivity. Also scores out of 10 don't give the judges enough room for manoeuvre. I'd like to seem them award percentages.

Oh, and older women can bounce too. Jill, for example. What about Ramps? Austin? You have to give it bounce - drive into the floor as Arlene said.

I would actually say that part of the difference was in the choreography - Louisa's choreography was probably more fun.

The dance Vincent did for Rachel was all tricks, with breaks in between, which slowed the dance down. It also had very little basic in - think it was about a minute before they even did a chasse! And then the basic Rachel did do was poor; they should have spent a lot longer working on basic technique rather than all the fancy sutff.

Much preferred Louisa's jive. Rachel's seemed to consist of a series of movements - danced well - but not joined up!

Totally agree with these posts - just focus on this series when it comes to the marking!

Rachel's jive seemed to consist of a load of old S club 7 video choreography & moves. All very good IF it's going to be edited for a video.
It just didn't excite me, and her bum looked big

I preferred Louisa's jive, too, but I did like Rachel's and felt a bit sorry for her that the comments weren't a bit more positive. I've liked every dance she's done but she seems to get very faint praise generally.

I liked both jives....but what's interesting about this series for me is that nobody has produced a dance that I would place in the 'truly memorable' category like Louisa & Vincent's.

Maybe it's me...but it seems like there are an unusually high number of couples capable of producing something really special...and yet none of them have managed to hit the heights yet.

I thought Rachel's jive was pretty good.
It is pointless comparing one competitor to another from the past. They are different people.
Overall, Rachel has been dancing very well. She is not perfect but few are.

Some clumpy changes and too many 'tricks' and either Rachel or Vincent lost the beat on the first travelling steps as they went back towards the stage along the audience. I think it may have bee Vincent as he aproached the judges.

Also Rachel's personality is suprisingly cool in a sophisticated way whilst Louise was cheeky bubbly.

But why the necessity to compare Rachel to Louisa? After all if one compared Louisa's jive to Jill's the former would surely come off second best.

Just had another look at it.

Turn off the "music" and it looks a lot better than I remember it.
But Vincent did rather outdo her on the initial jump-step and got a lot more height. Made her look a bit feeble. That's his fault though.

At the time I was very... meh. Mind you, that's all the judges get to work with.
But I think I've been harsh.

Funny that it's better without the music....I wonder why......
