The short answer is no - my kitten is 6 months old now and both my BF and I look like we're into serious self harm

The best thing to do is to make sure that when you play with kitty you do not use your hands - hands should be for stroking only!!! Use string, toys, anything the kitty likes to play.... When they are young and playful they have trouble is realising when they go from "playing" to hurting you!!!

My little one still scratches and bites, when she gets rough we tend to leave her for a few minutes and then give her strokes when she has calmed down.... Obviously she isn't on the same wavelength as us though as she still see's hands and feet as fair hunting

I hate the feet thing god I tell ya if I'm bear foot and I walk past him he'll go for em lol feet are not so bad just his playin with them makes them ticklish.

as for stroking well only time I can seem to stroke him is when hes sleepy lol rest of the time hes so agile he manages to twist himself round so he can have a proper go at them haha

It is a normal and natural thing for them to do! He is just playing. Mine does it and she is 18 months old. I wear long, thick sleeves so when she does bite me she does not hurt. It is good hunting practice as what you are doing is just taking over the job of the mother pussy who encourages wild battles catching invisible mice or birds.

You can in some countries have their claws removed like America but this is very cruel.

I would suggest you wear thicker clothes.

Ours bites very gently, and is careful with claws when playing, but he seems not to notice when he hoists himself onto my lap when I'm at my desk. My left thigh looks like Amy Winehouse's forearm. Apart from it being somewhat larger than her waist.

Answer - (with one kitten) No. (If you get another kitten so it learns not to bite as much) Yes.

Our cat was crazy for a fair few months and only calmed down when we got her a friend. They were both adopted out far too early. 8 weeks is ok for them to survive, but for social training, kittens shouldn't be adopted out until they're about 12 weeks+

In the meantime, I'd advise buying an oven glove specifically for playing with kitten!

Having two kittens together is beneficial in many ways but one of the main reasons people recommend you do this is because it helps with training them. If two kittens are playing fighting and one begins to hurt, a yelp or two lets the kitty know he/she is hurting their companion. Hence they learn how to play without hurting. Us humans have a much higher pain threshold so the kitty's will be more rough with us!!!

It's normally because they get bitten back!

You should know the sex already as you should have taken him/her to be vet checked within the first couple of days. Then booked the vacc's & arranged for insurance (unless you're rich! and can afford vets fees in the £1000's just for a broken paw).

FYI - For when he/she is older! B&M in Belle Vale/huyton sell massive 'Iams' cat food bags for under £4.00 and can last up to a month if you feed them the right amount. Better than £12 for the same amount in Supermarkets, or a week of pouches
