It must be wonderful to have such strong socialist views when you're a multi-millionaire, live on a farm in Kent, mix in showbiz circles and get all the perks that come with it.

Hearing O'Grady rant the other week about paying 5p for carrier bag showed how sour and opinionated I think he really is deep down. I could imagine that extends to many other things in life.

I like Paul O'Grady largely because of his devotion to animals but he does come across as a bit of a champagne socialist 'trying so hard not to be' sometimes and his relationship with GodCilla lets him down on Brownie points (with me, at least ).

Shame you can't spill the beans on you-know-who, SJR but, yeah, it's probably best that you don't on here for now (much as some of us would just love to know! )

I think she sounds more like a goose being trodden on. I wonder if she minds being played by someone who can sing ten times better than she ever could.

Why should someone change their political views and ideals just because they've become successful and wealthy? The whole "champagne socialist" thing is just a label trotted out by bitter Tory boys and girls who can't understand why others don't share their "me, me, me, I'm alright sod everyone else" mentality.

Smokey Robinson is very charming, low key and down to earth. Keeps a very low profile.

Indeed, utterly bizarre.

Surely champagne socialists have exactly that mentality.

& at least Tories are saying out loud that they don't give a stuff about anyone other than those at the upper echelons of society. Socialists are, by default, concerned with the fair distribution of wealth. Champagne socialists simply don't give a stuff whilst hiding behind a pretence of public services. I would've thought that was obvious??

Not really if they're paying their taxes and happy with doing that, then it's rather proving you can still have an opulent life-style whilst paying top-bracket taxes, and not complaining about it, or trying to cheat it.

Really odd you should think otherwise. How does having money prove they don't give a stuff about the poor?

Come on. At least if you are a Tory you are openly declaring that wealth should be kept amongst those 'at the top'. Do you understand what the definition of socialism is?

a theory or system of social organization that advocates the vesting of the ownership and control of the means of production and distribution, of capital, land, etc., in the community as a whole.

Champagne socialism/Conservatism is the exact OPPOSITE.

No, it's not, it's about the higher earnings should be shared out with tax, exactly what these rich socialists are doing. They are sharing the wealth and keeping it in the community as a whole.

As long as they pay the tax, and don't complain, they are giving back, they can happily be socialists. Mind you, you ignored the bit about tax before, so i guess you'll carry on doing it, that's the wealth-sharing.

How do you know they are paying the tax and not embroiled in tax avoidance schemes?? Just because they are not 'complaining' about paying tax means nothing.

I don't, if they're not paying the taxes they wouldn't be socialists, Simple. Barlow, now he's a Tory, simple.

Yet you can't really slag people off on well, nothing. How do we know all Tories aren't evil sex-offenders?

Sure.

You clearly don't get the hypocrisy of people claiming to espouse a political view that wants equal wealth distribution and yet actually revels in the opposite.

As for your Tory sex offender analogy - desperate terms call for desperate measures I suppose.

No as I say again and again, the taxes is the distribution. Why are you confused I've kept saying it, you then make up nonsense about people doing illegal things in an utterly desperate way.

You were the one desperate enough to say all Rich Socialists were possibly tax avoidance on no evidence, I was clearly saying the same back. I don't actually think they are all sex offenders, amazingly.

Thanks for confirming because I really believed you were. Truly.

You don't understand why champagne socialists are hypocrites so I can't be bothered to try and communicate with you any more.

I don't care about politics and have many friends from across the political spectrum and what annoys me is hypocrites like Black and O'Grady who respectively sneer at socialists and Tories but are good friends.

Black is just utterly vile as a person,
