Telly Savallas - told me to 'f*** off"!

Have met loads and loads of bands and have found everyone of them to be friendly, in fact the only celeb i have ever met who was not was the above-mentioned Telly Savalas, horrible guy.
May have been having an off day. He once visited a restaurant that used by the company I was working for back in the day and all the staff were overwhelmed by how wonderful and generous with his time he was, and that he'd taken time to ta;k to anyone who had wanted to chat with him. Even years afterwards people in the restaurant would sing his praises.

Bob Dylan - I was speaking to a guy who had some old tramp hanging around him , turned out that the tramp was Bob Dylan, didn't speak but looked really ill at ease.
.
He has previous on that. Did you not call the cops?

In a curious incident that either illustrates police overreaction or the widening generation gap—or both—Bob Dylan was arrested while strolling in a sleepy seaside New Jersey town by a rookie cop who didn't even recognize his name.
Residents of Long Branch, New Jersey apparently found the admittedly scruffy looking music legend's behavior "suspicious" and complained to their local, possibly not-terribly-busy police force. A 22-year-old rookie arrived on the scene and demanded identification. Dylan reasonably assumed she'd recognize the name and that would pretty much be that, but no, she ordered him into the back of her car and took him to his hotel to check his story. Dylan was in town to take part in a concert along with Willie Nelson and John Mellencamp, when he decided to take that fateful stroll.

Haven't met many but...

Holly Willoughby - horrible. I was across the road from her and a couple of young girls went up to her for her autograph and she simply looked at them, pulled a silly face, rolled her eyes and just walked off.
Does anyone have a good story about Holly as she seems to be this generations's Cilla Black.

Years ago while at a works dinner, met Paul and Linda McCartney , they had just done a concert as Wings, they were both lovely and friendly, and signed autographs to my son and daughter. 😀

I think celebrities have their right to bad days the same as everyone else.
I also don't think they have to be all smiles every time someone approaches for an autograph, I remember David Schwimmer once said he was in a restaurant when someone suddenly shoved a baby into his arms.

I met Lenny Henry and he was as miserable as sin- actually made me feel quite stupid. I could brush it off as a bad moment HOWEVER I know others who have come across him professionally and none can stand him.

But, to have something positive to say- Ray Winstone is nice and completely down to earth.

Whereas you think he's going to be all 'Katanga....Ooooookkkaaaayyyyyyy!.......Hi, I'm Theophilus Wildebeest.......,' and laughing riotously. Ben Elton's old phrase, the reality gap, springs to mind.

Been reading Dawn French isn't that charming in real life, either.

Like I said, I don't think celebrities have to be "on" constantly, but the experiences of others I know match mine. : /

Has anyone met Steve Coogan?

He's a hero of mine as a comic but hear he's not the best as a person..
I used to feel the same way, but the more I've read from him in interviews the less I've liked him. Oddly enough I encountered him and his new Celebrity partner in a pet shop just the other day (of all places)! Can't say either of them seemed very nice to be honest so I didn't want to approach them. We were left waiting for ages while they casually ran up their bill, not that I mind celebrities getting preferential treatment, it was just their whole attitude. The woman (I've forgotten her name but she was the teacher in Downtown Abbey I think) seemed irritated the cashier hadn't picked up on the fact she was famous too!

I met Harry Hill the week before as I went to watch the new Professor Branestawm being filmed. He was a lovely man, I already knew that he was quite quiet in real life so that didn't particularly surprise me, but I think what got from him in person was a real feeling that he is a very gentle man and it's actually very easy to imagine him as a doctor. 'I've loved you since the Harry Hill show!' I told him (as I thought he was probably sick to the teeth of people talking about TV Burp and asking for it to return.) 'Arhh the old Channel 4 series.' He smiled back at me as he handed me my signed book.

I saw Steve Pemberton on the same day! He was busy filming and looked a little hurried so I didn't approach him. Then Simon Day! He looked right at me and smiled in between one of the takes. Then he tried to make the production team laugh by dancing around pretending to play the violin! He seemed like a good laugh but he was quickly rushed into a car before anyone could get a chance to approach him, he wasn't being a diva or anything they were just busy with the production.

I've never seen so many famous people in the space of about two weeks!!

You can tell the smile on This Morning is totally false and the whole show is smug and unbearable to watch, so this doesn't surprise me, in the same way I've heard Phil Schofield is a total diva.
OTOH the barman in my local is a huge Dr Who fan and the actor who played the least popular and shortest lived Doctor, Colin Baker, is actually the nicest on the convention circuit and doesn't seem bothered about the criticism of his role in the past. Also the other Baker, Tom, after a long period wanting to forget about his role and dodging the limelight, is more than happy to talk to fans. From his autobiog, while he could be difficult to work with, I do recall a story from the seventies where he visited a young fan in Preston and turned up just as the show was starting. Far more than someone like Holly Willoughby would do.

Colin Baker has got a beef with Doctor Who Magazine over a set of season survey results a few years back, I gather.

He usually comes last in popularity surveys for his portrayal of the Doctor, but it doesn't bother him much and is well liked on the convention circuit. Actually none of the living Doctors are unpleasant to fans and are happy to talk to them about the show, a change from when John Pertwee wanted to bury his role for nearly 20 years and refused to discuss it with fans.

Well, Colin has refused to talk to DWM in recent years over this, according to a recent issue.

A interview in the same issue, was conducted by Nick Briggs though.

John Pertwee was deeply affected by the death of his friend Roger Delgado (the original Master) in a tragic road accident, aged 55. He quit the role soon after....so I think we can cut him some slack.

He just wanted to move on and reinvented himself as Worzel Gummidge.

Met Nigella a couple of weeks ago at a book signing. Amazingly warm and charming and incredibly polite. She made sure to chat to everyone while she signed to make us all feel special. Very gracious.

Aww, that's lovely. Harry Hill always came across as a kind soul, so I'm glad he was nice to you

I agree.

I can't stand either of them.

A few I can think of off the top of my head:
Jimmy Carr: lovely, polite and softly spoken, always has a funny quip to make for his fans at m&gs
Sarah Millican: so sweet, kind and down to earth!
Rhod Gilbert: same again
Louis Spence: lovely and quite quiet and well, normal in person!
Sally Morgan: lovely lady, despite her dodgy reputation I couldn't help but like her!
The proclaimers: soooo nice, met them a few times before the went to perform and they were so chilled, chatting to fans, and one called me "sweetheart" it was only after that I realised, when a fan told me how nice they were!
Jo Brand: chilled, nice and polite
Jo mcelderry: had a special meet and great for his fan club which seemed kind of him, very nice bloke too!
The Chuckle Brother: so lovely! They really got into the spirit of having selfies done and retweet any fans that post them on their page, happy to take any banter that any of their older fans give them with a witty response
Jimmy Osmond: kind and caring soul, will never hear him swear, lovely family too
Lynn Paul: lovely!
Paul Nicholas: so nice and polite, I find it funny that he's playing a bad guy at the moment considering how nice he is!
That's all I can think of at the moment, I know that there is more! I have been very lucky that I have had such good experiences! This is all from a little part time job that I've had as a student!

Pertwee was never off the convention circuit and always appeared in costume! There was never a period when he wouldn't talk about it - he was too aware of the money to be made!

I'd love to know if anyone has met any of the Rolling Stones or their partners. Apparently Keef is quite friendly to fans and Anita Pallenberg, his ex and housekeeper, is regularly seen shopping in Chichester, near Keef's English base. Also Ronnie Wood and Bill Wyman are quite happy to pose with fans, but Jagger is reckoned to be remote and gives the impression he is unapproachable.
Someone I know met Mick Jagger a few times (not performing) and they felt he came across as a bit too arrogant.

Jerry Hall was pleasant enough.

My sister-in-law had an uncle who used to work in various theatres as a stagehand in the 60s and early 70s. He said the Stones were quite polite and well mannered, especially Charlie Watts who he described as a "real gent."
He also met The Who, Townsend was "a bit up himself", Entwistle was quiet but polite, they were warned that Daltrey had a very short fuse but he found him pleasant enough and Moon was...well Moon He described him as mad but very funny.
