Many famous personalities were in attendance, Rowling was seated at a table near us, she sat there with a face like thunder, barely engaging in conversation with her own husband let alone others at the table, as customary it's polite to mingle and having read the books I wanted to ask her about the characters etc , boy was I shot down in flames.

She gave a short moan about always being asked about another wanting to know if she was writing anymore ( wrong as I knew it was a touchy subject), then she went all sour faced and moody and would not speak but chose to stare right at us making us feel very uncomfortable. I just walked away but I did get the impression she was an inverted snob and rather arrogant and looked down on people like me.

I know her dislike could not have been because of my skin colour because of her recent praise of the ethnic actress in the stage play but even then I'm not 100% certain , there is just something about her that made me very wary of being in her presence every again.

My partner said she is just a very unlikable woman with no redeeming qualities, when she smiles it is totally fake, there is no warmth and the eyes are totally dead.

My partner met Antony Cotton and said he was charm personified compared to Rowling,

Ive always liked Holly , but is she really a Diva and not nice?”

A friend of mine used to go out with her back when we were at school. went to a few concerts with them both and she seemed nice and quite funny but this was before she was famous so maybe she has changed.

I used to work in a call center for credit cards and once had Peter Mayhew on the phone. He was amazing he only rang in to say he was going to Australia for a convention and to make sure his cards work. Ended up talking to him for about an hour and half about loads of star wars stuff and he even did the Chewbacca noise for me. I was really worried about mentioning that i was a fan as that can sometimes not go down well on the phone but he couldn't have been nicer

I've met Mario and Lisa from Big Brother, Roy Wood and Neil Morrissey in my old job at a petrol station.

They are really nice people, very down to Earth.

Shame I couldn't say the same for Gregg Wallace. Cannot stand the man; rude isn't the word!

A bit late, but here's my celeb run-through of London Film and Comic Con 2016:

Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven from Stranger Things) - Absolutely lovely girl. Had a great air of maturity about her, had a very brief but nice conversation about her acting and singing talent, and then she took the time to ask how my day was going and called out "See ya around ShotDownInFlame!" as I was walking away. (she obviously said my real name but you get what I mean.) Was just generally a really, really pleasant young lady.

Keith David (Childs from The Thing) - Really, really cool guy. I saw him many times over the london film and comic con and not one time did he NOT have a smile on his face. Certain celebrities that attended often dropped the facade and you could tell they didn't want to be there (*cough* Famke Janssen *cough*) but Keith was the real deal. Was a very warm, approachable guy, do hope I get to meet him again someday.

Jack Gleeson (Joffrey from Game of Thrones) - You would absolutely not know this guy played who he played unless somebody told you. Absolutely lovely, very, very down to earth. Really took the time out to have a chat and ask how we were all doing and whether we were enjoying ourselves. Just generally a lovely bloke who was the polar opposite of "self-absorbed".

Kristian Nairn (Hodor from Game of Thrones) - Hodor.

Michelle Gomez (Missy from Doctor Who) - Absolutely mad as a box of frogs, but she was also very pleasant.

Colin Baker, Sylvester McCoy and Paul McGann (The Doctor from Doctor Who) - Decided to lump these 3 together as although we did meet the 3 of them seperately (all of whom were lovely), we also attended a talk which all 3 participated in together, and they were just so, so funny and warm. They really have top notch chemistry together and you can really tell that despite their rocky history (Baker was booted from the show to make way for McCoy) there is a LOT of love between the 3 of them.

Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye from Marvel's Avengers) - This was a VERY brief meeting as it was at the tail end of his photoshoot with all the paying fans (I was, in fact, the very last person in line to get a photo with him) and he was incredibly nice. Because I was right at the end of the queue - meaning he didn't have to rush through me to move on to the next person - we actually had a brief chat, he struck a funny pose for my picture with him and he gave me a nice handshake goodbye as we started going our seperate ways. You read about these "big time" celebrities who have an air of pretentiousness about them, but let me just say, Jeremy Renner is most certainly not that kind of guy.

My impression of the JKR story is that she was having an "off day" (some of these functions can be very boring) The poster seems to have been in the wrong place at the wrong time. Obviously the line of questioning he had must've riled her ( prob questions she's had to answer for the xmillionth time) & she had lost her composure by then.

I suspect had the DS poster met her on another day, another time, he would've gotten a different response.

I'm gonna have to read a few more stories about her being off before I buy into the idea.
She's hardly in Cilla territory is she?

Maybe she was having an off day but that's never an excuse to be so extremely rude to others - and frankly this I feel can't be justified under any circumstances... then she went all sour faced and moody and would not speak but chose to stare right at us making us feel very uncomfortable. If someone stared at me to the point of making me feel uncomfortable I would be asking what their issue was! I don't care whether they've made squillions from books or not.

As for not being in Cilla territory - there's been good and bad written about Cilla so time will tell for someone like JK.

Yes but it's a celebrity, they have to be 100% open and freindly every second of the day or random strangers will slag you off on line because they lack empathy and have a monumental sense of entitlement.

No they really don't have be those things at all. But they do have to try not to be rude to people in such environments. It's a skill people can learn, if it doesn't come naturally. To JK I would say.....Can't be fagged with anyone talking to you about writing or anything connected thereto? Don't think randomers should really even have the temerity to approach you even though you've agreed to attend a function where it is likely? Don't agree to do such things.

Totally agree.

I went on a pub crawl round the East End with Jo Rowling 18 months or so ago. She is a close friend of a close friend. I chatted to her a lot. She was great fun, very nice and open.

Obviously she was incognito. Only once did anyone approach her and ask if she was 'a famous person', which she politely denied 'No, I don't think so!'

Granted I could give her the benefit of it being an off day but there is just something about her I cannot put my finger on, regarding Cilla Black my partner met her a few times some of the time she was rather off but the other times she was charm personified, but I asked her just last night if she ever got the feeling from Ms Black that she got from Rowling and she said no.

If you look at someone's eyes they tell more about a person than the themselves would ever say, Ms Black never ever had a permanent dead behind the eyes look that Rowling in my opinion has.

Oh I met Jerry Brown the current Governor of California recently a nice friendly bloke for a democratic.

Ant and Dec - Exactly as on TV.

Cat Deeley - Lovely.

Tess Daly - Nice but maybe a bit too nice?

Cilla Black - Gave me a stare.

Stephen Mulhern - Great.

Graham Norton - Very friendly as you'd expect but also maybe like you'd expect, more quiet and less in your face than on TV.

Simon Cowell - Strangely unassuming

Louis Walsh - Funnier than on TV but perhaps a little too sweet to be wholesome?

A few from friends/family:

Kerry Katona (A-list I know) - She was apparently very nice and friendly, my bother was doing some work near her house and she came to say hello, he asked her for a selfie and she said she usually charges a fiver, he told her he usually charges a tenner for his so they should call it quits. She had a good laugh with them all and offered tea/drinks etc.

Carl Barat (from the Libertines) - Very down to earth and friendly and made a lot of time for his fans.

Robbie Williams - Very kind and recorded a message on my mates phone wishing his niece a happy birthday.

Geri Halliwell - Extremely rude and obnoxious.

Mick Jagger - A good laugh and very down to earth.

I have something of a checkered history with celebrity.

When I was a kid on holiday in London in the 80s, me and my mum spotted Susannah York out of Superman buying bed sheets in Harrods. "Isn't that Susannah York?" I asked. She must've overheard and walked off quickly in the opposite direction.

More recently, towards the end of the 90s, at Victoria's night club in Glasgow, I accidentally bumped into Noddy Holder from Slade on the dance floor. Being slightly worse for wear, and surprised to literally bump into Noddy Holder, I heard myself saying, "You're Noddy Holder." He took exception to being told his name by a clumsy drunk and told me to **** off. This kinda knocked the wind out of my sails, so I sulked off to the Gents where I found myself standing at the urinal next to Phillipe Albert, who was playing football for Newcastle Utd at the time. I don't know if word of the Noddy Holder incident had reached Phillipe at this point but for having the nerve to look at him with a I-think-I-recognize-you-from-somewhere kinda look on my face, he also told me to **** off.

Then, back in 2011, I scored a ticket to see one of my heroes, Stewart Lee out of comedy, playing a small pre-Fringe gig in Falkirk. After the show, an early version of Carpet Remnant World, I was enjoying a pint while I killed some time before my train, when who should prop himself at the bar next to me but Mr Lee himself. Now, cautious of celebrity and wary that simply looking at them or saying their name aloud is usually enough to make then run away or become verbally abusive, I didn't want the same thing to happen with a hero of mine. I needn't have worried. He was tired from the show but happily listened to me rant about how great the show was and posed for the obligatory selfie and politely refused my offer to buy his pint.

These people have the public to thank for their wealth and their fame. Some cannot live with the fact that they are recognised everywhere they go but they cannot escape that. Fame has a price. While there are instances highlighted in this thread of the public approaching celebs in inappropriate locations or ways, the most the stars should offer is a "Sorry, not now''. It costs nothing to be polite.

One of these days a celeb will suffer a KO when they reply with fxxx-off.

I used to work in a post production company and a Channel 5 TV show for a short period during the summer breaks.

Celebrities are human beings and they have off days, yes. They could be in a bad mood and we just make an opinion based on that one day. But there is something to be said for a celebrity who is rude to somebody in a professional context, and to somebody who is offering help. The rudest people I have encountered were Beverley Craven and Magenta Divine. Awful. I wish I could have said something but it would have upset my position, however I was very tempted. Tony Blackburn was a bit unfriendly, but not rude, per se. As was Romola Gurai. She just seemed very uptight, which would be the best way to describe her.

Sada from Big Brother wanted sparking water; the normal bottled water was obviously not good enough for her, so we had to get her sparkling water. I don't get that kind of attitude, yet some of them will want something else, even though there are lots of other choices available - just because they can. Jimmy Osmond was a joker, however he is obviously used to being waited on and shoved his very heavy bag my way, expecting me to carry it a short distance to his dressing room. I found a Scouse soap star (who is married to an ex glamour girl) very bitchy, he was gossiping in the green room about a certain talent show judge, accusing her of being a bit of a 'slapper', as he put it, and he claimed she had tried it on with him. I found him unpleasant, especially talking about her in that way. I don't know if I am allowed to name him, so I have not. Vanessa Feltz was a little bit abrupt.

Anthea Turner was lovely, such a nice and polite lady. Stephen Baldwin was lovely and joking with the staff. Tara Fitzgerald was also very sweet.

I have also met a few people who were nice: Buffy cast (especially Amber benson), Rhona Cameron, Joss Whedon, John Hurt, Joanna Lumley (stunning!), Matt Damon, Angelina Jolie, Jon Voight, James Haven, Dominic Maughan, Russell Crowe, Jake Gyllenhaal, Matthew Perry, Minnie Driver, Brigitte Nielsen, P!nk, Leanne Rimes, David Harewood (asked me on a date!), Steve McFadden, Ant & his wife, Ewan McGregor, Christina Ricci, Su Pollard (wacky!), Anton Ferdinand, Tara Fitzgerald, John Simm, Brian Dowling, BB Caggie, Jennifer Connelly, Paul Bettany, Kirsten Duntz, Colin Salmon (flirt!), Carol from Eastenders - very shy.

I saw Meg Ryan and Kylie Minogue, who very close by at the Borderline Club, but I did not 'meet' them. I got a quick signing from Beyonce once.

I have no idea why, but when I first saw Cowell on TV, despite the fact that BGT, Pop Idol, X Factor and pretty much everything else he's had a hand in creating has been very much the opposite of "to my tastes", I always got this vibe that he was really nice, despite him having to be "Mr Asshole" for the cameras.

Then my initial impressions of him were confirmed when my friend's sister gets a job working as his personal assistant and she's gone on record as saying he's very easy to work with and also very gracious, warm and friendly.

And that's his personal assistant saying that, someone who has to put up with him during his most stressful moments *and* constantly having him in their face pretty much 24/7, so if they have good things to say you know he must be a good dude.

Just a shame that because of the shows he's been involved with and because of his TV persona, a lot of people just instantly assume he's one of the biggest divas around.

Yeah you'd have thought it'd be obvious, but every time there's a news article about him the comment sections are forever slagging off for being a vile and nasty piece of work so apparently it's not quite as obvious to some as it'd seem.
