That's probably the first time I've heard something negative about Sir Alex, I've always heard that he's down-to-earth and will have an in-depth football conversation with just about anyone.

I've never met a footballer, but my brother-in-law used to know Ashley Young fairly well as they lived in the same street in Stevenage. One time a few years back when Ashley was at Aston Villa, Dan drove past him so decided to turn round so he could introduce Ashley to my nephew. Ashley spoke to him and promised to get him a signed picture.

So that was all forgotten about until a few months later, when my sister was shopping, she walked past Ashley's mum who came charging over to her and after talking a little, ran to her car, and she came back a few minutes later with the signed picture for my nephew from Ashley, my sister won't hear a bad word about him now!

Also, a few months back my brother was at work in his shop when loads of security-types came rushing over, placed a small table on the floor directly outside his shop and then came over with some sort of trophy. He took a picture on his phone and sent it to me asking; "Do you recognise what cup this is?" It was the FA Cup, and he was within touching distance of it! Then Garth Crooks and Dan Walker came round the corner with a camera crew and started recording a piece for Football Focus right outside the shop door! He had Crooks chatting away to him, and they even asked if he followed Stevenage in the football for an on-air interview (they were to play Newcastle United that weekend in the FA Cup) but he declined. The sod hates football as well, jammy git!

Hugh Laurie, set of Maybe Baby - Awesome, great with the extras (Ben Elton same)
Stephen Fry, at some event - Effortlessly funny, despite being swamped with photo requests from teenagers
Louie Spence - Flippant
Ronnie O'Sullivan - Seemed genuinely nice, signed autographs

My sister's friend met Pixie Lott a press event and her and her collegue described her as "attention-seeking" and said she had no time for fans.

Lovely celebs
Johnnie Walker (Absolute charmer and signed autographs even for people without books) , The Hairy Bikers (Great guys) , John Suchet (Lovely bloke) plus others who will come to me in time for me to add.

Only 2 horrors I can remember who were Non-entity Dan Bryan (BB5) who was at Soccer Six at Villa Park in 2005 and thought he owned the place and secondly Paddy McGuinness who at the same event signed about 10 autographs and then decided he couldn't be arsed to sign the rest of the line of people's books and programmes , gave some feeble excuse and went back to playing football (badly).

I live in Stevenage and I met Ashley young's dad the other day. Was stood behind him in a petrol station for about 15 minutes listening to him chat to a mate... after about 5 minutes i worked out who he was and said hello. Told him his son should have come to Liverpool instead of Man Utd! He found that quite funny. Nice fella. I know he's not a celebrity, but never mind.

He is a cousin of my friend/brother-in-law. He really is like that in real life. I remember him from when me and my sisters were younger and he always used to come around to play and even when a bit older going out around town and the likes, always shy, but very sweet and sincere.

That's nice to hear. I've never heard a bad word about Colin either in the media or from those who know him. I hope fame never changes him!

Lisa Scott-Lee - very up herself; a real diva princess complex coupled with very little talent! Very bitter about not being allowed to be one of the two main female singers in Steps!

Jenni Falconer - lovely, absolutely lovely. Makes tea for everyone and no ego at all. (but it was before she was famous!)

Sir Richard Hadlee - Lovely, unassuming, geniune bloke. I babysat for him once when he was over here staying with the people I used to babysit for, just after he was knighted. Paid me £150 for 6 hours babysitting in 1990. He passed me an envelope just before I left and said, 'I think you've probably earned this!' I thought it would be the usual amount I got paid for an evening's babysitting and didn't open it until I got home! His kids were spoilt little baggers, but he and his wife were lovely. They came for a meal at the restaurant I worked at the following day (I was a student at the time) and signed autographs and made out we had been friends for years (I earned points from the lads in the kitchen for that!)

i love this thread, it always makes for an interesting read.

i met Jacqueline Wilson at a book signing years ago , didn't speak to her though , i was only like 10 so i was a bit shy to say anything.
i met the footballer Steve bull at a my school , he chatted to people and had photos , a nice guy.

ive met a few of my heroes.
i met two members of what was my fave band Elliot minor. i got a hug off them and me and my dad had a five minute convo with them , they were lovely.

i met my fave band young guns at a signing , i was so happy afterwards i was still in shock it had happened. i was wearing one of their shirts and hoodies and the drummer said 'i like your shirt' or something a long those lines with made me smile. i got stuff signed and highlight of that was i hugged the lead singer who i love. he gave a great hug

then i met two of my heroes the magicians Barry and Stuart after one of their amazing live shows. i got my ticket signed and Stuart bless him put some of his fake blood on my ticket , my mate was jealous and then we got a photo with them which i now treasure. they were lovely , i traveled 40 miles to see them and it was worth it. afterwards i just wouldn't shut up about it. they were happily chatting to fans and were lovely guys which is good because i would have hated it if they turned out to be horrible.

I forgot two more......

I met Ed Balls at my son's school - he had gone there as a child and came during a publicised visit. He was really nice (despite me expecting him to be otherwise) and talked about who he played with as a child. We ended working out that he used to play at my house when it belonged to the previous owners. He also told some of the children where to makethe best slides in the playground when it was icy.

Sam Oldham - olympic gymnast also came to the school - he'd been a past pupil too. He was really unassuming and suprised that people knew who he was and were interested in him.

I've me the Osmonds too, lovely! I think that's the key to their longevity in showbiz, they know who put them on the top in the 70s and they've never forgotten that. I had a front row seat to see them at the LG (NEC) Arena last year, when they stepped on the stage the whole place erupted. Who says only the young have fun!

Love Elliot Minor! Met them at one of their concerts in Liverpool and they were very chatty to their fans and happily signed autographs and posed for photos! They're very chatty to their fans on twitter as well

So true. I've been a fan of the Osmonds for 49 years.. almost as long as they've been in showbusiness. lol I remember seeing them way back on the Andy Williams show in the black and white days of television and have been a fan ever since. I'm looking forward to their last UK Tour next year.

This is a bit of a non-story but I nearly met John Simm once I was sitting at one of the tables outside the Crucible Corner restaurant when I spotted him on the next table. He must have been there after rehearsals for Hamlet as this was a few days before it started. I wanted to go over but I thought it would be rude, as he was having drinks with the other members of the cast and I didn't want to disturb them. I did get to sit in the front row when I saw Hamlet a week later though and he's just as gorgeous in real life

I've met Jack Nicholson - he was a fabulous combination of cool, sexy and very charming!

I'd also like to mention Des O'Connor - me and a crowd of mates used to drink in a pub near where he lived, and him and his missus used to come and sit and have a few drinks with us, and he was a riot - it was quite a surprise - didn't think he'd have much a common with a crowd of Goths!

I think the most embarrassing celeb encounter I've had was Daniel Day Lewis - for reasons best not mentioned, I was stomping along Leicester Square in a strop, head down, and nearly knocked him over! He was very sweet about it, and spent several minutes making sure I'd calmed down and wasn't going to do anything rash!

Yes that programme was broadcast on BBC Four earlier this year.
