Jim was a most unlikely game show presenter, as he admits himself. He was a stand up comic in northern working men's clubs and felt he wasn't at all cut out for TV presenting and thinks his early days on Bullseye were quite disastrous, but the show rapidly acquired a cult following, and the rest is history
He did OK, did Jimbo. Re-runs of Bullseye still seem popular on Gold, and with a newer generation who love the cheesy elements.

Steven Moffat (writer of MANY successful tv shows) is such a sweetie. I went into creepy fan mode when I saw him outside Euston, High-pitched "I'm a huuuuuuuuuge fan!" voice, blushing...I was an embarrassment.
And through my gushing like a little girl, Moffat held his hand out to shake mine, said he was pleased to met me, and let me go, kicking myself for being an utter pain.
And I'd interupted him sending a text. Bless. Lovely man though.

When I worked in a shop a good few years ago Liz McClarnon (Atomic Kitten) and Lee Ryan (Blue) can in when they were together to buy a few hundred pounds worth of clothes.
When they came to pay Lee Ryan handed me his gold card which he hadn't signed the back of so I had to ask him for id and he showed me his driving licence.
They both seemed very down to earth and pleasant not at all like what the media reported him as.

Ricky Tomlinson on the other hand is exactly like 'Jim Royle' in real life no airs and graces and wants everything at the cheapest price and falls out with mates when they won't do him discount
My son met Duncan James and lee Ryan a few months ago and had his picture taken with them. I think it was in Heaven / GAY. Anyhow he said Duncan was a bit up himself but Lee was really nice. I think that was the same night he spent some time chatting to Andrew stone too, he said he isn't as bad as he is made out to be and out of the 3 Duncan was the worst

Jodie Marsh - She's TINY!! Though I have to admit in the flesh she's very nice looking and really down to earth and friendly.

I was watching an episode the other night and was laughing my head off over how cheesy it was. And yes they won a speedboat at the end

It was seriously cheesy - but way more entertaining than the crap they pass off as game shows today.

I used to watch Bullseye when I was little with my late grandad, so it's really nostalgic for me. I used to think the speedboat was the best prize ever...was too young to realise how impractical it would have been for most of the contestants!

Well, I've spent a fascinating half hour reading a few of these lists of the good, the bad and Cilla. After years of casual reading of DS, I've been enthused enough to sign up and offer my own list.

Up until fairly recently, I used to work as a radio sound engineer for Aunty. Mostly, R4, but some World Service, and a smattering of R3 and even some R2. I met a lot of presenters, announcers, and one or two guests, over the 4-and-a-bit years that I worked there. No one stands out as being particularly 'orrible, but, hmm, how shall we say? Some made me glad when they arrived, and others made me glad when they left.

Firstly, the continuity announcers, newsreaders and weatherpeople: absolutely top class folk, the lot of them. Not the slightest suggestion of a bad word to say about any of them. Some of them are completely potty, but they're all really, really lovely. Special mentions for Corrie Corfield (particularly naughty sense of humour), and Zeb Soanes (dreamily handsome, and really quite shy until he gets to know you).

No particular order:
Ed Stourton: can be quite reserved, but always pleasant.
James Naughtie: ditto, but not as reserved as Ed
Evan Davis: surprisingly shy, but a complete sweetheart
Martha Kearney: some people have said that she can be a bit remote, but she was always perfectly civil to me.
John Humphrys: abrupt and abrasive - but people tell me that he has got worse over the years.
Carolyn Quinn: lovely
Ritula Shah: Everyone likes Ritula!
Robert Peston: mad as a very mad mad thing. But in a good way.
Quentin Cooper: not an unpleasant chap, but not nearly as clever as he thinks he is.
Eddie Mair: if he likes you, he's your best mate. If he doesn't, he really won't talk to you much at all. But never a bad word to say about anyone (well, except for some of the people he interviews...)
Laurie Taylor: never really quite sure about him, to be honest.
Mariella Frostrup: goes out of her way to be nice
Sandi Toksvig: nice, but a little bit too fond of her own jokes. Very dry and satirical sense of humour, but it gets boring after a while.
Actually, one person stands out as particularly 'orrible:
Melvyn Bragg: pompous git

Other random slebs:
Frank Skinner: surprisingly normal. Expected to dislike him, but found him to be very personable and nice.
Bob Monkhouse: total gentleman, naturally witty, had an amazing ability to give you his full and undivided attention when you spoke.
Stephen Fry: two faced. That avuncular, charming, witty persona turns on and off with practised ease. Likes you for as long as you laugh at his wit and marvel at his erudition.
Aggers: side-splittingly funny, and a very good pianist (think he's a church organist too).
Brian Blessed: BRIAN BLESSED. Has enough personality for three normal-sized people. Love him to bits, but when he gets excited he is a bit of a sound engineer's nightmare.

Very interesting post Soundcheck.
Surprised about Melvyn Bragg and Stephen Fry, not surprised about Aggers. Have only interacted with him on Twitter but find him a good sport.

I have heard that Stephen Fry is very nice until one dares to disagree with him.

I think his Twitter tantrums support that view.

Ricky Whittle and Jim Bowen are nice
A friend of mine who met Jim Bowen was not so impressed and described him as an old perve. Sadly, my friend is no longer around to elaborate.

I used to know Laurie. I ended up disliking him. He's a great raconteur, but with a malicious edge.

Met Stephen Merchant last night. Absolutely lovely. He posed for photos and was very unassuming. Cool as a cucumber. Love him!

Also not nice

Lucy Meck (TOWIE) vile to shop assistants. saw her in Top shop Lakeside screaming at a young girl because the tag had been left on her dress.
Tracey Emin - rude to a publicity girl on minimum wage at an opening who was spraying perfume as part of a promotion and swore at her agressively.
Danielle lloyd banged into me at a club in South Woodford she was drunk and actually shreeched at me 'don't touch what you can't afford'
Cilla Black really nasty upset a friend of mine

What a vile bitch. Not surprised though, I for one have not forgotten how disgusting she was in Celebrity Big Brother no matter how hard her and her PR team have tried to change her image around.

What did Cilla Black do to your friend?

I agree, I could never ever fathom how she was allowed such an easy ride. Whilst not condoning Jades behaviour, Jo and gobby Danielle were equally culpable but weren't hauled over the coals as much as Jade.(Lord rest the girl)

I want to know to.

Cilla must be absolutely vile. Nobody has ever said a positive word about encountering her in real life - ever!

A girl I work with - she is VERY sweet and nice and I have never known her to be anything other than truthful - is a bit of a celebrity follower. She goes to a lot of concerts and sports events. Anyway, she was travelling on a plane with Stacey Solomon about a year ago, and she said she is hands down the most rude celebrity she has ever met (she has met hundreds). She said she doesn't talk with that voice at all like she does on the telly, was rude to air staff, and hostile to fellow travellers. I can't remember the deets but she said she was taken aback at how different Stacey is in RL compared to TV.

Would like to add that Westlife are horrible (with the exception of Mark). I worked in reception in a hotel in Belfast a few years ago and they treated me (and colleagues) like they scraped us off their shoe.

My friend encountered Cilla through her work in production and said that she was rude and it seemed as though she went out of her way to make my friend feel belittled. My friend has met other celebs because of her job and she said that Cilla was just the most up her self and nastiest of them all. She said that everyone laughs about Cilla's legs in tv because she loves them and flaunts them at every opportunity.

Yes, that's sort of what I felt. Very witty and pleasant to get along with on the whole, but I couldnt' help thinking that some of his barbs were, well, overly-barbed.

I'm not in the least bit surprised about Stacey Solomon, I've always found that voice to be put on - always thought there was something about her.

Working in the South Wales media, I've spoken to people who worked with John Humphrys when he was a young, ambitious journalist in the area in the 1960s. He was far from universally liked back then! I'd heard he'd mellowed hugely with age! There again, I know at least one of his colleagues from that era is highly disreputable, so maybe his opinion can't be trusted. I, personally, rate John VERY highly as a journalist and interviewer.

His late brother, Bob (ex-BBC Wales), used to live near me, and I always found him decent. He liked a pint, did Bob.

I never found him actually rude (although plenty of other people have told me that he can be very rude indeed), but he always gave off a distinct aura of "I'm John Humphrys, don't you forget it", which is guaranteed to raise my hackles.

I rate him highly as a journalist, but my opinion of him as an interviewer has gone downhill over the years... it seems to be more and more about him and less and less about the people he's interviewing. Of course, some (most?) of the people he interviews need to have answers drawn out of them with sharp knives and hot pokers, but Humphrys seems to take more pleasure in that than in getting actual answers.

I've never met anyone famous but my mum met David Tomlinson when she used to work for John Lewis. She worked on the fabric counter and he came in to buy some fabric for his wife. He was very tall and very polite apparently

Was that fabric used to cover his bedknobs and broomsticks?
