I'm with animal friends for our dog, I've never had to make a claim so I couldn't tell you what they're like but I chose them as we have to move round the country with our job and they have the same premium wherever you live.

I shopped around for a couple of minths before I went with more than.

I found with the cheaper premiums gave much less coverage, so it depends what you want.

My last puss, Simeon, was on medication that cost £50 plus per month for 2 years and he wasn't insured, so I thought I'd get insurance to prevent me having to pay this amount of money again.

The cheapest quotes would only cover medical costs like simeons for the first 12 months of treatment. Although the insurance covered any age of pet and covered upto £3000 worth of medication, after the first year you had to fund the ongoing treatment yourself.

So if you want to cover for ongoing medical costs, then the premier plans are the way to go. I pay about £6.50 a month and all the companies that had this enhanced cover charged about the same.

I did get quotes for as little as about £3 per month, but not one of them would have paid out for ongoing meds after the first year of prescriptions.

Hows your puss recovering from her spaying? I'm having Macey done on Friday and I'm really nervous about it. She just so little!

I am with Tescos....they were the only one I could afford at the time and I have to give them their due they were very very good with me when after only having had the insurance for a couple of days one of my cats hurt his leg which resulted in three weeks of treatment. They didnt quibble and just paid out no problem.

I cant remember all the details of the policy but its £30 excess, £3000 vets fees, help with advertising if your pet goes missing.

Not sure what they are like with dog prices but I pay £13 a month for two cats.

Thanks guys, I will have a shop around!!! Not letting the little one out until after tomorrow anyway (not that she seems at all bothered by fireworks - bless my little weirdo )

She recovered just fine - try not to worry too much, its worse for you . My Amber is still titchy too, they weighed her at the vets and she is not even 3lbs yet - but she is fighting fit and the same beautiful little monster she was before

Any questions about getting Macey spayed feel free to ask!!

I'll just add my thread - my update after she was done is in there FYI

Maceys less than 3 pounds too, she's only turned 5 months yesterday too! She always looks quite big in photos, but shes a scrap of a thing really

My boss made me take the day off as she shaid I'd be useless at work if I was fretting about her all day.

Other half was looking forward to having a quiet cat for a few days and not having his feet attacked, so I would be quite amused if she came home as feisty as yours sounded!

Do they always put one of those collars on them to stop them getting at the stitches?

Oh hun - I imagine Macey is at the vet's right now!!!! But she'll be home soon enough. Let me know how she gets on

My little one didn't need a collar - two weeks after her 'op' she is healing very well and being as naughty as ever

I think my vets would have only put the collar on IF she had started to nip at her stitches. I am glad she didn't as she would not have liked a collar

Anyway - hope all is well... Macey will be home soon and very grateful to see you both

Hi Rainbow, I'm picking her up at 4.40. The vet rang a few hours ago to say she had come round and was doing fine.

She went mad this morning cos I didn't feed her. She was manically chewing my foot in the hope I would het the hint and feed her, then when that didn't work she jumped on the work surface and pushed her bowl off the side. Luckily she left the pot one where it was! I felt so mean.

Then she howled all the way to the vets as I think she now knows where she is going when she is in the carrier. Fingers crossed she doesn't have a collor on. I don't ever remember the cats I had as a child having collors when they were spayed.

Just wondering how much it is going to cost. I was quoted £40 when I booked her in, but now I'm wondering if they will add a consultation fee on top of that. Did you have to pay one?

Not long to go then!!! Glad she is OK and she'll be fine - may be a bit groggy this evening but she'll be right as rain tomorrow....

You wait until you have to get her back in her basket for her post op check

I don't think there will be any extra charges??? Mine was £69 , I also got her microchipped and bought some more flea / worming stuff so it was £120 in total.

Hopefully she wont have a collar but if she does it will be for a few days and fer her own benefit.

It's horrible going to get them (not as bad as taking them mind!) my little one was going crazy and none of the staff could get her in her basket.... I had to go and get her from recovery!!! And her bald patch made her look like a manky little alley cat , but the worst part is done now.

Let me know how Macey does over the weekend!!

She isn't in the slightest bit groggy! You wouldn't think anything had happened to her. I can't get her to keep the collar on, it's the smallest size and has to be made tighter with bandage! She thinks its a game and purrs whilst I put it on the she works her way out if it again.

To top it off she even fetched it to me and dropped it at my feet! She has also managed to put it on herself, only the wrong way round.

I am worried about her stitches though as the vet nurse said a lot of cats have to go back because the collars have been taken off too soon and they have pulled at their stitches.

I'm going to give it one more go tonight, but if she can still get it off, then there isn't much I can do about it! She hasn't shown any interest in the scar so far, but she might when the painkillers wear off!

She been playing on the stairs and climbing on her post as if she has not a care in the world!

She is beautiful !!! How is she doing now??? Bet she is fighting fit??

My little one wasn't given a collar and she healed just fine - I was advised to make sure she doesn't climb around too much and rupture her stitches (ever tried to stop a 6 month old kitten climbing?? ) but other than that her stitches dissolved and wound is now healed!! Just waiting for her fur to grow back now

You wouldn't know she has had an operation. She was just as barmy and active on the day if the op as ever. The incision the vet made was tiny and you couldn't really see any stitches. Within 2 days you couldn't see any scar! OH reckons the vet has jsut shaved a big patch of fur and didn't bothered operating!

I did worry the scar would itch when it started to heal and she would try picking at it, but I don't think she has so much a licked the wound.

My little one would have a lick round where she was shaved but the lack of fur freaked her out , she's growing back nicely now - I still call her "baldy" though

It's amazing how resiliant they are and it was def more traumatic for me than it was for her

We've used 4 different companies now and I can't say that any have been any good. There always seems to be some get out clause when it comes to claim time. It's terrible when you think you're safe and covered and you're not.Last time it cost us an extra £800 so our policy was a complete waste of time.
