Turn off Text delivery notice?
Is it my phone that delivers a text delivery notice or the phone of the person sending the text?
A 'friend' of mine is using the text delivery notice to tell when I read their texts which means they know that my phone is on and use it as an excuse to phone me. Does a delivery notice work when my phone has received the text or when I have read the text? My phone is a Nokia N73 and I'm on O2 PAYG. Thanks |

It's the senders phone that sends them a delivery report from their network displaying the destination number and when the text was delivered.

Eg if my phone is turned off when the text is sent, there won't be a delivery report, but does it happen when I turn the phone on and receive the text or if I open the text? Thanks |

Its actually more complex than that. In most circumstances the receiving network signals that the message has been delivered to the handset. However, this relies on the networks both supporting Delivery Reports and having an agreement. So all you can definitely tell from a delivery report is that the message has left the message centre.
There is also the issue of delivery reports being low priority on the network. This means that the delivery report can be delayed for some time and may arrive long after the message was received. Additionally, at times of heavy network load, they can be turned off completely. Basically it means you shouldn't rely on Delivery Reports. |

Ok thanks for the information. So all my friend can assume is that my phone is on, not that I have read the message.
