I have the Phillips DVDR5500, good machine although I do find myself having to reset it at the wall from time to time because of lock-ups.

My mother-in-law's VCR has recently packed up and I was going to record her Video tapes to DVD however good old macrovision gets in the way, does anyone know if there is a code, mod or hack that can disable it?

Failing that does anyone know a good device or Scart lead that will remove macrovision with good results and not break the bank at the same time.

Are you using software version 112 that seems a lot more stable.

As for mv don't think you can get round that tried one of those sonel leads £30 didn't work so bought a new liteon 5006 for £35 from micro direct came mv removed ready but think they are all gone now.

I've tried hooking up my old VCR to the computer sing Xpert DVD Maker 2.0 however that comes out black and white they say its because I'm using a Scart to composite adaptor (as my VCR only has composite in (not out)) they say its because it is doesn't have a bilateral deliver function, does anyone know what that is anyway?

"bilateral deliver function"? they are taking you for a mug. Some scart leads are fully wired and some are not.. I think it has to do with the outputting kit getting some sort of signal back eg FreeView box connected to Dvd recorder, If you set reminder on Freeviw box it will start up and out put a signal which will also wake up the dvd recorder. You should be able to get a colour picture from composite leads as all picture information is carried on one lead? Red+white for L/r stereo and one yellow video lead? maybe your VCR is outputting a RGB signal over scart, which is normally better, buy you should have your VCR output a composite signal over SCart..

There's a strong likelihood that this CYP CCR2SRGB from Lektropacks will do the job; sadly it goes outside your "not break the bank" brief!
