Hello, I have a very cute little cat who is a Bengal and one of his traits is that he is quite clingy and a mummy's boy. I'm 6 months pregnant and I'm worried about how he will react to the newcomer in the family. Any tips please?
Jealous cat
I have 2 kittens, one Tom and one She. The Tom gets extremely jealous if I'm making a fuss of the She, athough they get equal love and cuddles.

Try to introduce the cat under a supervised visit with the baby and as well as coping with a new baby and the millions of things you have to do, try and keep the cat to the routine it's known and give it loads of cuddles and love...BUT COVER THAT PRAM AT ALL TIMES IN UNSUPERVISED INSTANCES!

Buy some ear plugs, if he's anything like my Bengal he'll shout the house down if he's not getting the attention he expects.
Huh, some helpful tips, thanks. I plan to get one of those nets to put over the cot and pram for when he's asleep and if the door comes open.
Cats tend to adapt. As long as you have time for puss to get in a few fusses he should be fine

Mine were fine when I had Youngest - Stripe just gave me a look which said 'What have you brought home now
' - she had only just forgiven me for bringing the dog home five years earlier
They all gave baby a wide birth but LOVED to sleep in his moses basket/pram/car seat if I forgot & left them uncovered (when he wasn't in them - ALWAYS covered if he was). So cover EVERYTHING if you don't want lots of extra washing.
Is puss allowed all over the house? Mine were not allowed upstairs in that house. If you are going to restrict where he can go - such as baby's room & your room - start doing so now.
Now for the horror story Included not to scare you but so you see why you always need to be vigilant. When Youngest was about 18 months old Stripe launched an entirely unprovoked attack on Youngest. She kept her claws in thankfully, but battered him around the face, hissing and spitting at him. He was just sat playing with his toys Stripe wasn't allowed in the same room as Youngest for weeks, then only if he was on my lap or physically very close to me. They are fine together now though, in fact Stripe seeks out Youngest's company

Based on my experience, Tom will not be jealous but very protective when your little one is born. When my little nephew was born my cat watched over and guarded the little fellow and seemed to know how important he was. It was fascinating and lovely to watch actually as he would stand to attention any time anyone went close to the baby and would carefully survey them.
Having said that, the male cat I have now is incredibly jealous of his sister and whenever she comes up for a cuddle he pounces on and bites her tail!
