It has little to do with him being "comedy gold" The same thing happened with Fiona, and she was hardly charismatic.

Think you mean Kate don'tcha - Fiona got voted off fairly quickly IIRC? I know they're a bit interchangeable

John doesn't fit any previous moulds - he's not rubbish enough to be completely slated, because of the fun he brings to every dance. He's clearly not competitive and isn't taking things at all seriously, even in the 'hope I don't let my partner down' way. And he's obviously the first to poke fun at himself - which has totally disarmed just about every critic out there.

So yeah, I think the blog is right insofar as it points out John's joie de vivre - and wrong in comparing him to anything as horrible as Russell Brand

Thanks Sid!

(with this link you are really spoiling us!)

I'm not sure how I feel about John at the moment. I'm torn between exasperation and enjoyment. I do find Kristina mesmerising to watch though - I never really watch John!

So do we have Russell Brand to blame for John staying in?

I suppose the brits love an underdog - and sometimes the underdog can come from behind and win the day - not John I suspect!

Lazy, mediocre, clumsy attempt at drawing a spurious comparison

And exactly who are these contestants who started off all relaxed and then became 'fanatically steely and gimlet-eyed in their absolute dedication to winning'? It's a cheap and easy shot when you don't have a big enough pair to actually mention any names.

Fiona still stayed in for too long. Cloris was highly entertaining, John isn't.

Why take it so seriously? Surely the whole thing is meant to be fairly lighthearted.

I love John Sergeant - I think he truely reflects what SCD stands for. He tries his best every week and entertains us all!

I know its a dance contest but if you only wanted people who had some skill on the show then you should not invite people such as John or Kate Garraway on the show.

Or are they only on so that they can be mocked whilst other more accomplished dancers are praised to the hilt no matter what!

I like John, but I think its his time to go out this saturday. If he doesnt, I think we'll be in for a 'big shock'.

And personally, I dont feel as if its Heather's time to go yet either...

I recall it differently...she seemed to start off a little embarrassed and reluctant....until a few sessions with Bren sorted her out.

I like John to but he must go soon sadly. Though a shock exit by someone like Cherie might shake the show up.

Fiona was neither charming, relaxed nor entertaining though, and she showed little attempt to try either (at least, not to my eyes). Her attempts were just bad, nothing more and nothing less.

I readily admit I am deeply biased as I can't abide the woman, but I think she is missing the embarrassment gene. I think she went all out to win at any cost. But like I say, I am biased

Evening Mama

John certainly struck gold with Kristina and together they have charmed so many of us - I'm not counting on John being in the final, but I thought the article summed up perfectly why he's still in the running.

Strictly Comic Dancing.
If they were still around Morecambe and Wise would walk it if Jolly John has got so far.
So next year the Krankies ?

Simple answer to that question - people are prepared to spend their 15ps to watch him. It won't last much longer though as it'll mean losing someone they want to watch more like Christine.

I think I am now at a stage where I would like to see John go next. I've enjoyed his participation in the show and think Kristina has been brilliant, but when I look at the remaining contestants I wouldn't want John to stay at their expense. However I admit that the general public might think there is more mileage in him and he could last a bit longer.

I'd love to see Brenda's face if John went through as of right and Brenda was in the dance-off.

Some people like to take some things a little seriously or they find life meaningless and shallow. I'm also one of those people.

Entertainment does not have to be light-hearted, it can be taken seriously. Othello. Olympics. TV drama. Mastermind.

Entertainment does not have to be serious that it makes you weep, either.

Entertainment can have an element of the serious and the light-hearted. I like to think SCD has an element of both.

If John stays another week it will be too far down the farce track for my liking. It reminds me of the campaign the Sun ran many years ago to bring a donkey back from Spain where it was being ill-treated. Much as I had sympathy for the donkey, I did wonder why that particular donkey and not all the animals everywhere who were being ill-treated. John has become a bandwagon for people to jump on and that's what's happening. I get as much fun watching a toddler pulling a teddybear around by the ears as I get from watching John and Kristina, although like a lot of people I do think Kristina is doing an amazing job, and that's the real attraction of the pair, not the "ah, John's so entertaining" factor. He's not, she is.

Good on you Sid

I like John and Kristina they bring something magical to the show. A sort of relaxed comical light entertainment that isn't tainted by ego and competition. It's a bit like the old music hall. Any of the others can go far as I'm concerned they just haven't produced anything that matches Alesha last year. Without John and Kristina I could be easily persuaded to do something else on Saturday evening. Like Antic and Deceit said 'the public have been voting' and they sure have for John anyway. If that puts a few noses out of joint especially the muppets on the Judges panel then 'cry me a river'.

The problem I have with John is that he doesn't seem to try. I've already mentioned Cloris - she's about 20 years older than John, and she managed to do some simple steps. Marching on the spot etc is just pathetic, as is smiling through serious dances.

I don't understand how you can say he's not trying - except for one week when they were the ones with the least hours training, they have trained as much, if not more than some of the other couples. Not to mention that he seems to be sweating profusely in most of the training footage. John has also managed to do some simple steps and is in no way worse than Cloris. He didn't march on the spot in all five dances he's done so far
