Out of the two I prefer John to Chloris and it did spoil DWTS for me to see her stay week after week when better dancers were going home - but that's the voting public for you. Chloris outstayed her welcome imho and I think John is in danger of doing the same thing (again imho ).

I do think a lot of the public like to see older contestants doing their best and giving it a real go, which I think John does. Also if John does stay this week and a better dancer goes they probably would only have got one more week out of it anyway if we were to take John out of the equation. At the end of the day there can only be one winner and with or without John most of the other dancers days are numbered and John being there has probably only speeded up their departure by one week.

I agree and Chloris is probably the fittest 82 year old I've ever seen and she is very well preserved for her age too - she looks like she's in her sixties with a great figure. My problem was her inability not to play the fool the whole time - if only she's put all the energy she spent trying to be funny into her dancing. They even brought in her husband in her last week to try and get her to concentrate on what her partner Corky said (her husband and Corky must both have the patience of a saint!).

I think John is definitely doing his best (I'm not sure I'd say that about Chloris), but at the end of the day as Len (and Carrie Ann) said, they have to judge what dancing they see and can't make allowances for age.

And I'll be honest and say if I was a celeb on SCD or DWTS and someone of the ability of John and Chloris stayed in longer than me, I'd be secretly miffed given how hard you have to work - couldn't be publicly miffed because it wouldn't look good!

I agree if we were contestants and got chucked out for a lesser dancer we would be very miffed indeed but we would have to bear in mind that being in the bottom two means people arent that anxious to see us carry on so we would have to grin and bear it.

If John stayed and someone who has a chance to win went, then that to me is a shame. But equally, I don't think Jodie or Heather has a realistic shot of winning so it wouldn't be a tragedy to me if either of them went. At the moment I am very underwhelmed by several of the contestants. John is providing the fun factor that other's can't muster. And quite honestly I don't actually think he is that bad! Certainly better than Fiona & Kate. Maybe its because of his physical presence, he looks funny and sweet when he dances whereas F&K just looked clumsy and awful.

He seems to spend most of his training time reading the paper. And where has he lost the 2 stone from?? He doesnt look any thinner to me at all.

The Paso was good entertainment and John looked like Paddington Bear. I think, however, that his charm has now taken him as far as he realistically ought to go. Andrew was improving, and as somebody who watched SCD1, I don't relish another Christopher Parker scenario with John. Jodie is also improving, and if she has built up a sufficient fan base to keep her out of the bottom two, I for one would be happy to see her winning. For me there's no joy in watching ultra-competitive sportsmen, or contestants who can already dance. No, John isn't as bad as Christopher Parker (he can keep time) but neither is he good enough to be in the last eight.

The short answer to the opening question is that John is still in the competition because people obviously like him and are voting for him in large numbers or he would have been in a dance off and gone. Its as simple as that, and no amount of threads started on here and the BBC boards are going to change that fact until the public who are voting choose not to vote for him.

I'm shocked people actually vote.

I agree, he looks just as fat now as he did when it started.
Maybe it was just a way of begging to be kept in.
Wonder what he'll try this week?

That's two reasons to be secretly miffed then LOL!

Sorry but its people that make comments like this that make me pickup my phone and vote a few more times for John.

I'll admit that John doesn't look that much slimmer, but if someone is considerably overweight in the first place then a real difference isn't noticed until they've lost 3, 4 or even 5 stone.
And I agree with Jan2555 - if it's John's birthday, even more reason to vote for him.

I think that's a cop-out...but be reassured I don't take anything to do with RTV seriously.

Even if it is fairly lighthearted nonsense, it's still vaguely irritating to see it being used to exaggerate / fictionalise a situation.

Personally I think this is the week that he should go; everyone that is left now has a reasonable dancing ompatancy and could improve. Andrew was (IMO) the last of the true deadwood

Does anyone know what dance he's doing? It looks as though there's only the cha cha or the salsa left.

Usually I like to see the contestants exit the show in order of talent (or lack thereof), just because I find the worst dancers a bit embarrassing and awkward to watch, and I feel a sense of 'fair play' towards the ones who are clearly better.
However, in John's case I genuinely do enjoy his dances with Kristina (undoubtedly all down to Kristina's skill and John's basic sense of rhythm), and not because they are 'comedy gold' - that sack-of-spuds paso drag notwithstanding. I enjoy them far more than I've enjoyed the dances of the departed contestants.
It wouldn't bother me if John lasted another week at the expense of Heather (yes, I know she's nice and a better dancer, but I enjoy J&C's routines more than H&B's). After that it gets harder and I think I'd rather watch the others more than John. For me, that's why he's still there. He and Kristina are entertaining to watch; he's got a good attitude; he's light on his feet and - to a non-dancer like me - looks actually quite good at the ballroom.

Pity they don't allow clog dancing. With his stomping and marching routine he might look OK>

Ditto Jan

It was reference to the 'blue rinsers' that prompted me to top up my phone in anticipation for Saturday. There's no respect for our elders anymore!

Because he's being voted for.

Can't think of any other reason why he's still there.

That's how SCD works. You pick up the phone and vort for your favourite kupple.

John has brought a sense of fun to SCD but I really hope he goes in the next 2/3 weeks so that real contenders go through to the final stages.

I like John, and so far those who have been voted out have deserved to go. He's not really stayed in at the expense of the more deserving so I think that's why I'm okay with it. But it's got to the stage where he should be the next to go. The other remaining dancers are all better than him and it would be grossly unfair if they lost just because everyone likes the funny guy. I've had a laugh watching John but I do think he should be the next out, at this point.
