Old Monster Munch is back!
ikkleosu
04-11-2008
In Morrisons today I bought a couple of big share size bags of "old style" MOnster Munch. I have longed moaned about the demise of the old 'roast beef' flavour so was over the moon they have been rereleased.

Sadly the taste doesn't like up to how i remembered it and has much more of a curry crisp taste than roast beef. But they are still tasty.

The roast beef are exquisite. There always seems to be an abundance of pickled onion. Does anyone actually at these?

If they were free then yes! I still prefer Space Raiders though

I only usually buy MM if they are on special offer.

I used to love these, especially the 80s versions that could bring tears to your eyes they were so (artificially) strong! I'll definitely be trying the roast beef again when I'm over too.

I've had a few of the "new" (old) bags of late and they taste exactly as I recall.... delish!!! Sadly my local shop has now sold out!!

I think the Roast Beef tastes about the same.

Sure the damn things have shrunk though! I'm sure they used to bigger than they are now.

It's taken a couple of weeks and sourcing from various supermarkets but I have finally got myself the holy trinity!!

My crisp depository finally has a couple of packs of the old size Monster Munch in each of the best flavours. Flamin' Hot, Roast Beef and Pickled Onion.
I am a happy man. My packed lunches are now complete.

I wonder if the roast beef will still be in the yellow bag?

When you were a kid that bag seemed to be huge and they would really fill you up.

I can confirm that the roast beef flavour are indeed in yellow bags, complete with the wide mouth pink monster on the front.

Do they do the tomato sauce ones in the blue bag?

If only...

It seems (at least as far as I can tell from my supermarket research) that the only ones available in the 'old skool' format (ie, big size bites) are flamin' hot, pickled onion and roast beef. Tomato ketchup would be a welcome addition though I agree. I feel an email to head office coming on...

I had a big bag of pickled onion the other day from Tesco, hadn't had them in years.

Not as toxic as I remember, bloody nice in fact.

Good idea! I remember tomato ketchup was in a blue bag, roast beef in a yellow bag and pickled onion in a red bag. There was a pink bag as well but i can't remember what those were.

I think the pink bag may have been Bacon flavour.

I'm pretty sure they brought out some bacon ones later on as I remember been fond of that flavour.

Just trying to remember if it was Monster Munch.

I love Space Raiders. They're really hard to get round our way though

Our Morrisons used to do them but they don't anymore. The only place I can find the multipacks is in one of the pound shops in the town centre. Even then they don't always have them in stock.

60p for a bag of MM? I'm trying to remember how much they were back in the day. I would hope they're a decent size bag for that price.

I've been on the prowl but I still haven't spoted them on my travels.

Sad to notice that they seemed to have removed the Scampi flavoured Nic Naks from the Nic Naks multi pack too.

I saw that, but they have replaced them with Pickle N Onion and they are also nice. Wonder if it is just a tester to see if they sell better.

Every so often our Morrisons has special offers on Bacon & Scami fries multipacks. Delish!
