They can do what they like to the steppy bits but you do not, under any circumstances, mess with the Weller back catalogue.

Well its about getting noticed and I think the audience will love it which is what is the most important part. I think pros like Camilla and Brendan have been around long enough to know that this is an entertainment show as well as a dance show.

I don't think this is a good idea at this stage of the competition as I agree that it will simply drag up the 'he could already dance' discussions BIG time - his current fans will love it, but it will put a lot of others off him (echoes of the word 'smug' being used maybe?).

They should save it for the show dance in the final if they get there.

PS Oh and Len will hate it!

Austin and Erin could rumba to English Rose

Also, this will separate Tom's routine from Austin's if there's something the viewers can remember by (remember Colin's leap at the end of the QS - and Len not liking it as evidenced from one of his Masterclasses with Claudia?).

Also, if Tom danced a technically competent routine (barring the quickstep either in the beginning or the end of the dance, which they can be out of hold), Len may 'pan' it (oh no, not with those messing about, get on with the dance!) but still give an eight. The other judges might be charmed to part with a nine, or even ten, as it's clear Tom and Cam are aiming for the sky too!

It's a gamble, but the gamble might, just might, pay off.”

Yes - but it's going to give Tom an "unfair advantage" as he has such an extensive tap-dancing history ...

(One for any Cherie supporters lurking out there ... )

Joking aside, I think this is a deliberate ploy to showcase Tom in a week where Austin has a dance he's nervous about. If it's on the BBC website, it wouldn't surprise me in the slightest if the idea had come from the producers, in their desperation to create more ""drama" ...

And, of course, it would have been dramatic had we not been told anything about it and it popped up unexpectedly in Saturday's show. However, the producers have no idea how to manage the celebs this year and telling everyone bout something before it happens is clearly their idea of injecting excitement. They have a lot to learn ...

I'm sure Tom will carry this off, but is it a ploy to cover the fact that he is concerned about pulling off the QS itself? (He looked worried at the prospect of it on Sunday's results show)

And yes, please don't choose A Town Called Malice ...!

a tap dance?

Blimey, the Tom Chambers smug-o-meter will be off the scale come Saturday night

I think the tap dancing is a clever idea, since men don't seem to suffer the 'but he could dance before' thing and it will presumably be 'Wow' and outclass Austin's quickstep (which much as I like Austin there is room to do). Agree that it's also clever to do this on a week Austin is likely to have a rough time, and I can already hear in my head the judges, particularly Arlene, telling Tom how he's outshone Austin. I can see 10s and Tom being the best dance that night, and God knows we need some 'Wow' dances in this series.

However - and this is probably irrational, so sorry - I really hate the whole 'Billy Elliot' thing. To me it feels stolen from Jodie and Ian and just no way is Tom's story Billy Elliot's story. Sorry, but Bleuggh! Right, thanks, I needed to get that off my chest somewhere.

Actually, I'm thinking that "You do something to me" would make a nice rumba.

And I'd like to see John Sargeant paso-ing to 'Eaton Rifles'.....

(Sorry, Mr Weller, I'll stop it now....)

“Len: Its nothing to do with ballroom”

The programme's called Strictly Come Dancing - not Strictly Come Ballroom Dancing - so in theory they can do any dance they want to.

Ian and Camilla are pro partners so probably being discussing these ideas long ago.

I really hope not. The quickstep does not have tap dancing in it.

Actually, the word ballroom is sometimes ambiguous. When you say ballroom dancing competition, it includes all the latin numbers.

But in the ballroom dancing competition itself, you have the ballroom routines and the latin routines.

Sounds confusing I know, but I believe Len is referring to the former when he criticised Tom's cape as 'having nothing to do in a ballroom dancing (competition)'.

I'm baffled as to why he chooses now to have a go about the cape seeing as it's been used in every series by any number of male zlebs, and it's only now in year 6 he's having a whinge about it.

You obviously havent seen the youtube clip of him tap dancing then that was being talked about such a lot at the beginning of the show.

I'm prepared to give Camilla a chance, her tango with James Martin was one of the best tangoes ever and that was out of the ordinary.

To his 'credit', He did say in one of the ITTs with Claudia (in the previous series) that he's not very keen on props such as capes.

Then again, Mark Ramprakash used his cape effectively (he did get it out of time towards the end) in his Paso in 2006, and he didn't complain. So...

I still think it's just Len's perverted way of complimenting Tom's talent and ability. He's angry with Kelly having that silly diamond-studded cape last year (partly because she's a woman, but partly because Kelly's attempt looked insipid at best), because he was quite sure Kelly was a good enough dancer to not have to resort to props.

I didn't see Len criticising Kenny using the cape that much (or maybe I can't really recall, maybe he did), or when he gave Ola some flower when he did the VW with her. I hazard to guess that Len did not view very highly Kenny's lack of dancing talent and so 'overlooked' all these props malarkey it for Kenny...

When it says 'solo' does that mean Camilla will be sitting on Brucie lap fileing her nails during the dance?

Ah, well I don't remember him saying that before but I do take your word for it. I know him having a go at Kelly.

To pick an example of cape action, James Martin used it right at the start, very effectively with dramatic lighting and Len raved about 'fantastic start, it was great the start.'

So he hasn't got a great consistency on this subject or indeed much else.

I have, but it doesn't seem to have affected Tom's popularity the way Cherie's possible ballet training and Kelly's experience, etc has been held against them. Maybe it has, and I just haven't read those threads.

To be fair to them, this is a very risky strategy and we do need them all to take some risks. So good luck to them. I wish I could take to Tom. I've always loved Camilla and her partner every other year I've watched.

Len's just not a fan of Tom's is he? I don't think it matters yet...but it's likely to come into play at, say, semi-final stage...
