Adult cat fouling indoors

I'm at my wit's end with one of my cats and hoping someone may be able to help.

i have had my cat for around 6 years and in the last couple of years she has taken to fouling on the carpet indoors. We have tried shutting her out of the room but she simply finds somewhere else to do it, we have sprayed the stuff all over the carpet that is supposed to stop them doing it but she still persists. It's not always in the same spot and my other cat has never done this. She knows it's wrong and will run as soon as she see someone spots it but will still do it even in a room full of people!!

Anyone got any advice or any idea why she does this?

Thanks all

Children do it for attention,so I would presume your cat enjoys the reaction you give her.

She needs to be retrained. Outside is best. Make a little toilet area for her and dump down on it and tell her "you must go to the wees here!"

That is what I did. It works.

We have one exactly the same.

Shes been like this for years and we've never found a 100% foolproof fix.

The only thing we've tried recently is changing her litter type from Catsan gravel type to Catsan Wood Granules which are softer underfoot/paw. She does seem to prefer them and in the 3/4 months we've been using the new stuff, she's only poo'd on the floor a couple of times. It used to be a couple of times a week.

Letting her out wasn't an option. Shes about 8, has always been a house cat and doesn't want to go outside. If you open the exterior door, she runs away.

It's nice to know I'm not the only one with an odd cat!

I've always (and probably wrongly) been determined not to give her a litter tray because there is no space in the house for one and she has a cat flap which she regularly uses, so I know there is no problem with getting in and out of the house. I thought she might be scared to go out, that there might be another cat 'bullying' her but I've watched her outside and she seems perfectly comfortable. She is very overweight which is something else I am trying to work on but she is very lazy which doesn't help!

I may have to admit defeat and try and find a suitable place for a tray, thanks for the replies both!

Why go out and pee and poo in the cold and rain when she is comfortable inside LOL.

The best thing is VINEGAR to clean the smell, once they can smell its hard to resist. They dont know they are being naughty, she just associates pooing with you starting to shout at her lol.

I would put a litter tray down for her where she goes the most and start from scratch. I had a cat did this years ago, and it did work. Also I worked out roughly when she went to the toilet and excluded her from coming in by locking the cat flap and leaving her tray outside by the door. It did work in the end.

p.s. Have you checked with the vet to make sure the cat isnt ill or anything. I would certainly talk to the vet and perhaps you could seek the help of a cat behaviorist.

You need to get her a litter tray for when she is indoors and make her go in there. We have indoor cats who never go out and do their business in litter trays with no problem, just takes a bit of training
