A couple of weeks ago, my Samsung U600 went strange. I'd had it since January, and been pleased with it; but I got it out of my bag one day and it didn't want to play. The screen was black, and the 'touch' buttons were bright white. It wouldn't 'do' anything.

Anyway, O2 said to send it back, so I did. I've now had a call from them to say it's as dead as a dead thing, and they can't replace it with another U600. Would I like to choose from the following:

Samsung Tocco
Nokia 6300 (Classic or Slide - my choice)
LG Viewty KU990
Obviously, I'll google, but I'd like to know what other mobile users think about any of the above.

So ... what do you think? All advice/opinion/experience gratefully received.

Cheers flagpole

I've just been in to my local friendly Carphone Warehouse to ask the tame assistant his view. For anyone interested he said 'don't touch the LG, the Nokia is 'ok' but no better, but the Tocco is great fun'

the viewty is troublesome, the touch screen takes some getting used to and some people never do. that having been said it has some great features.

the nokia is a great little phone and i wouldn't say anything against it. but it's at a completely different price point and can't compete at this level.

the tocco would appear to be the obvious choice.

Thanks again ... it would seem to be the way to go. I'm pretty pleased, I'm 10 months into an 18 month contract, so a nice upgrade for free for the remaining 8 months is an early Christmas present

Although I lost some stuff of sentimental value on the U600

Looking at your post, I think there is a mistake. The 6300 doesn't come in classic or slide versions, its the 6500 that does.

Erm ... well done for spotting my deliberate error

You are right, of course - it is the 6500.

Thanks.

Well i have to say whilst I don't yet own one I have used the LG viewty and I liked it. I liked it's interface and had no problems with it, the only thing it need was recalibrated for my own touch of the screen.

I know some people with the viewty and they rate it highly.

The carphonewarehouse sales assistant I spoke to rated the Viewty as the other mobile phone shops sales staff. It's all personal opinion and should be taken with a rather large pinch of salt.

[I've been after a new phone for ages and have looked at a lot of phones including the Tocco Viewty and Cookie]

I've done a lot of mooching around on the net, and found plenty of 5 star reviews for the Viewty. Some negative ones too of course - but the same can be said for the Tocco.

Where the Nokia is concerned, it would seem the Slider version of the 6500 is much better equipped than the classic

Have you made a deicision on what you're going to get?

I haven't decided what I want to get yet, every time I make a choice I end up finding something i don't like and look for something else !

I started with the C702 went to the C902 then the Viewty > Tocco and now the LG Cookie. I saw the 6500 but I have an unexplainable hatred for slider style phones so avoided it which is a shame because there is something "nice " about it " not to mention the price !

I might just have a little handle of a live Tocco to see what it is like actually. I've only tried my sisters but *very* briefly.

I'm going back upto CPW tomorrow and I want to walk away with a new toy, I mean phone !

The only problem with the Tocco is when you go to take a photo, there's a pause of about a second or so before the camera takes the shot which means moving objects often come out blurred.

I had the Tocco, I apsolutely hated it. Texting is an apsolute pain, the camera is very bad, it is slow and is generally a horrible phone, and I've had two of them.

I would strongely recommend the C902 or W760i - both two stable, easy to use (as with all SE's). I am sure you can have one of them if you ask.

I agree (apart from what I've lost on the U600)

You're one of those 'man of few words' types, aren't you?

So today's the day then? Will you post here and let me know which toy you ended up getting? Cheers

I read some reviews which made that very point. However, I'm pretty good at carrying around my camera, so could use that for moving objects? I have had other phones which had that same 'delay' on them - it's maddening, isn't it?

Ah ... I might have already ordered a Tocco

However, I only have 8 months left on my contract, so if I hate it, I'll just have to live with it for that time, and then look to upgrade when the contract has finished.

I've never had an SE phone, although one of my friends swears by them, and won't have anything else. Thanks for the advice, Tom.

Whilst I am happy with touch phones (Samsung Omnia) - my wife did not like the Tocco or Omnia particularly and she was very happy with the 6500 Slide given the handbag issue with 10 tonnes of rubbish and an unprotected phone screen at the bottom.

Changed it to a Nokia 8800 Arte when upgrade was offered but 6500 is a very good solid piece of kit.

I've had a Tocco. They're great little phones.

I suppose it's all down to personal taste - for me, I want a stable, quick, and easy to use phone, hence that I went with the C902 or W760i. When I had the Tocco, I felt it to be clumsy to use, the UI was way too big, and just didn't suit my needs, and was more a fashion phone I feel.

I didn't buy one in the end
[I only went up to take another look at the Cookie and ask some questions]

I like the interface and love the touch screen, it really is a joy to use. I've tried texting twice now and having the T9 turned off it's great to use plus the stylus you get is rather nifty to use. I have big fingers and I find the touch screen easy to use..

I had a look at the camera as that was my main issue and it is slightly laggy on the screen but it wasn't as bad as I feared it might be. Didn't get a chance to try the video aspect though.

The main thing holding me back is the issues I have with the camera, no auto focus and flash. I just cannot decide !

I'm sitting here wondering why I haven't actually bought it when quite honestly there is nothing majorly wrong with it !

I've definitely taken the Tocco out of my choice of phones, just not enough about it that I liked. My ssiter absolutely loves her Tocco though. She doesn't have any problems or issues with it.

Is their anything specific you would want out of the new phone you got ?

The handbag issue is an important one to consider with us wimmin However, I make sure I buy (or make) a bag with a pocket especially for the phone, so hopefully that'll put a stop to any accidental touching on the screen.

I haven't had a Nokia since my trusty old 3400, eons ago.

I had hoped the Tocco would arrive yesterday - it didn't.

It'll be interesting to see whether I develop the same criticisms as you. As I said above, I have to have it for 8 months until my contract is up (although if I really hate it, I could go back to using the Motorola V3i I've been using since the U600 died).

Is the Cookie the one with the full qwerty keyboard?

I hear you on the 'flash' issue (isn't the iPhone the same?) and the autofocus - perhaps it was something LG sacrificed in the pricing issue?

I think you've procrastinated enough ... go and get the bluddy thing

You can track it in My O2 - log in and go down to 'My Orders'. You will be given a tracking number, and it should come by DHL (probably in a car).
