Also I don't remember the other Joseph's fans being so harsh with Lee. I've seen Jodie criticised on both Rachel and Sarah's blogs saying that their favourite should be playing Nancy. Some of Sarah's fans have even said they hope Jodie is ill so they can see Sarah.
Jodie seems to have to fight harder for all the recognition she gets, far more than Connie or Lee ever did.”
At the end of the day, ALW and CM are putting their reputations (and a considerable amount of money) on the line with
Oliver! (as they did with SOM and
Joseph), therefore that gives them a right to voice their opinions. They were asked who they thought was Nancy and said so (perhaps it wasn't the wisest move, but they were asked and responded and they had a right to do so).
As a Lee fan, I recall him getting lots of criticism from other Josephs' fans during ADWD. Connie also did (and continues to do so). It's what happens with these competitions. It's not always fair, but Jodie certainly didn't get any worse treatment than Lee and Connie as far as I can remember.
I watched both HDYSAPLM and ADWD prior to IDA, so already knew what to expect on DS and other forums. To be honest, I don't think the IDA threads have been particularly bad. What I will also say is that you can't expect people on other threads to be complementary about your favourite Maria/Joseph/Nancy. It just doesn't work that way!
As for having to win CM and ALW over, I think you'll find that both Connie and Lee had to prove themselves to ALW and his fellow big-wigs. Jodie has to do the same. That's part and parcel of the entertainment business - it's what you have to do when you get your first leading role, especially when you get it via a TV casting show rather than the conventional route! I don't think Jodie has it any tougher than Lee and Connie did - the only added pressure on her is that Lee and Connie were both outstanding in their roles and have had incredibly successful runs (Lee's ends in January). Jodie has to live up to that.
