well, there is this black cat that most of the time just loves t sit on top of my wheely buckets outside and also have a walk on the little brick fence thingy outside my place.

but the cat lives down the road i believe.

seems a nice friendly cat but... should I give something to him?

i just name him the community cat! it does wonders with women that walk past my place

My wife has a fancy water pistol that squirts a jet of water at the cats. That's usually enough to get the job done. I have heard of people using devices to give cats a nasty electric shock, but your idea of poisoning them fills me with horror.

Why not?
I think it's quite common really, for people to feed cats that come round.
Obv I wouldn't give it a whole meal but maybe a little scrap of something you had for tea or whatever.

Just be prepared for the fact that if you do feed it, it will continue to visit your house until you move out, it dies or you die.

... and it's quite common for owners to wonder why their cat is putting on weight despite hardly eating anything at all.

Blinking is generally a sign of affection ! Try blinking at it first and watch it blink back at you !

I wouldn't feed it if I were you - Its either looking for a bit of company or just hanging out - if you feed it, you will then join its retinue of staff... its chief of staff may not appreciate you fiddling with their menu either..

i,d be pretty p***ed off if someone was feeding my cat.
just saying because you have to be careful these days some people will look at that as though your trying to steal the cat . lol you may well laugh but nothing would supprise me anymore

Cats can be food whores - you may find if you start feeding it then it adopts you!! Which isn't really fair on the owner!!

there's also the issue that you dont know if the cat is on a apecialised diet for some health problem or other - for example, my friends cat is diabetic and she has to be carful with his diet. for all the best will in the world, i think its best you just give Community Cat a bit of affection

you could maybe put a wee note in his colar, asking owners if it ok to give him a wee treat, or to invite him in for a cuddle? my mum had a visiting cat, who was just lovely, and she had permission from the owners - and gave them her phone number in case they couldnt find him - but was under strict instruction not to feed him!

Reminds me of a letter I once saw in a magazine. This woman started occasionally feeding a cat who started visiting her. One day the cat arrived with a note tucked into his collar, which said 'Please could the person who is feeding me ring this number, as I am getting fat'. Feeling very guilty, she rang the number and confessed, to which the woman at the other end of the phone said, Thanks for calling, you're the 8th person to ring today!'

Cats - you've gotta love 'em!
