I got one yesterday from Maplin it is amazing for the sise
you can get a bigger picture than 21inch it is mains powerd with an adapter and has a component cable you can connect any source to it I had it running using the satellite reciever . it has sound with speakers but it is not very loud better to use a amp or home cinema system. the picture is ok but you see the dots of the lcd pannel it is more noticibile the biger the picture but I found that after a while viewing you dont notice them if you are further a way from the screen its not so noticabile . it not HD picture quality but at £99 its a bargin no exspensive bulbs to replace no fan either so no noise |

Last night I used the projector to watch NASA TV via the internet , using video sender to beam the picture to the living room where the reciever is conected to the maplin video projector and I watched for hours a 50 inch picture of the astronauts space walk ! because NASA TV as 1000s of outher tv stations are freely avalibile over the internet , the picture is relay only 240 lines due to compresion and this is upscaled by the maplin projector . so it is ideal for internet television which suits its low resaloution , siting back in the room the dots which make up the lcd pannel are not so noticabile this is one area where the projector out preforms my HD LCD

Do you think this projector would be any good for PowerPoint presentations - I need something small and portable (and cheap!). Thanks.

In a word, No.
Much too dim Very low resolution No VGA input You would be wasting your money and your audience's time. For Powerpoint to look half decent you want at least 600 ANSI Lumens brightness, but more is better. You can scrape by with a resolution of 800x600 though really 1024x768 is the accepted norm. You can buy a reasonably competent projector for about £400. Spending more gets you better features, better quality, smaller, quieter, brighter. If there's money riding on what you are presenting then the safest bet is to hire a projector for the day. Google is your friend. |

For £100 you cant expect a lot. I generally use it to watch films at night (with all the lights turned off).

yup its all gimmicky at this point, leds are just not very bright. there are new led based dlps coming out, but their brightness is still poor compared to their regular counterparts. they do have the advantage of being able to reproduce the function of the color wheel by flashing their colors in sequence quickly, without the rainbow effect, but at this point its at the cost of brightness...which is a very bad thing. so yea, no way a 99 pound gadget is going to be worth sh*t. lol

it's only 1280 x 800 pixels. You can buy a full-HD 1920 x 1080 projector with a conventional bulb for around half that price. It would take a hell of a long time to recover over £500.00 in running costs (if ever).
![]() Not that I'm suggesting it's good value though

It also struggles to project an image larger than 100" without it being blurred, images smaller than this are purposely soft (that's to disguise the 1280x800 pixel structure at larger screen sizes), it has a poor contrast/brightness rating which affects 3D playback, poor blacks and shows signs of chromatic aberration - you can get much better for much less. |
