Does anyone havethe above HDD/DVD recorder?

I am trying to pause Live TV, but it doesn't seem to be working. I am watching the TV through the internal Freeview tuner in the DMR-EX78, I press pause (as the manual says) and it's supposed to pause the Live TV, but it doesn't!

Does anyone have any ideas?

Pause TV does not work that way.

Pause live TV uses the TV's tuner to record... so you must be watching a TV channel for it to work [ and properly linked in order for it to work. ]

As such it is a pretty useless system because the best that can be got out of a TV is a very low quality signal... and it ties up your TV's tuner so you cannot turn over.
Also the recording is not available to you afterwards should you decide you would like to keep it.

You are much better recording using the DVDR's tuner and then simply invoking 'chase live tv ' [ by pressing play ] . You can then navigate to anywhere in that recording you like, pause it if required ... all whilst the recording proceeds.

At the end the recording is available for watching again / copying if you so wish.

Unlike what Gavtech says, it does work that way, and it doesn't use the TV's tuner(*). But you're pressing the wrong button - you need to press "Time Slip", not pause. It's on the bottom right of the remote. This will start a temporary recording of whatever channel the ex78 is tuned to, and as gavtech says it doesn't keep the recording afterwards.

If you do want to be able to keep the recording afterwards follow the rest of gavtech's suggestion.

(*) that is, unless you have a panasonic tv with viera link enabled and you press the pause live tv option on the tv. in that case, the tv pushes the current channel out to the ex78 which records it, and what gavtech says is broadly right.

Carvell asked this same question on another forum where i provided the same answer... where I corrected my error but omitted to do it here.

I was confusing it with TV control invoked Pause Live TV systems.


However, Timeslip is a completely different function for navigating specific amounts of time through recordings on the HDD and unfinalised discs [ and VRmode + discs]

[Press timeslip and use the North/ south buttons of the nav wheel to input a time which increments in 1 min per push or 10 mins if you press and hold ... then press ok ]

Pause live TV is invoked by pushing pause for a couple of seconds.
As you say, it does use the DVDR's tuner.

Its useful for pausing live TV ... it purpose is not for making recordings.

If you want to change channel that means you no longer want to pause live TV.

But still means you are always watching diminished quality and reduces your later options.
Again - up to the user, but unfortunately these inadequately linked systems are aimed at users who are not quite sure what is going on ... and makes it worse for them in many cases.

Its fairly clear and obvious you press the RECORD button to make a recording not the PAUSE button.
