Ren was scratching for a few days and she has 2 nasty bites that she keeps nibbling at. she had a flea on her, so we put spot on, on it yesterday, so that hopefully will be the last.

but what about the house, any fleas in the carpet get killed by the spot on dont they but what if thyeve layed eggs, wont they keep coming back, will we have to get the house treated?

Ok, first question, what spot on did you use? frontline, or something prescription only from a vet will do the job, but you can get a lot of crap from the supermarket..think Bob Martins....
If you have used a good spot on that will do the job, but.. if you want to be 100% sure, use either Nuvan Staykill, Indoorex, or RIP sprays to hit the house.
The nasty part of fleas is, they do not spend all their life on the animal, they spend a lot of time breeding and laying eggs in your soft furnishings!
So, to be very very sure, blast the house as well!

i think its just called Spot on.

will be getting a flea collar anyway and now i will be spraying the house.

are fleas difficult to get rid of or will they reoccur?

1) frontline is your friend - don't be cheap and buy supermarket crap & flea collars, they're all useless and a false ecomony.

2) Hoovering - hoover every day - if you have a dog you should be doing that already anyway.

many moons ago we had a cat who had fleas. took her to vet, who gave us front line and a massive yellow aerosol can for our soft furnishings. (we had been on holiday and she had picked up fleas from the house-sitters dog, so our carpets were JUMPIN!!! the woman was nice about it and offered to pay our vet fees though) i have no idea what the stuff was called, but it worked. although, the snake had to move out for a week, but all the fleas were gone.
