Our line is brand new (well, there is no line yet).

We haven't phoned BT yet because we haven't fully moved in but I'm just curious to know if you can pay this in instalments or is it upfront? I can't seem to find anything about how it's paid other than up front, but I have heard people say you can pay in instalments.

I've seen that offer but we're not too keen on the 18 month contract and it's doubtful that we'll make enough calls to keep it going. The line is almost exclusively for the internet.

As you'd have free calls at least at the weekend to 01/02/03 numbers, there's nothing to stop you making the necessary calls to friends, family, a railway or bus station to enquire about a train or bus time .....

We went for the £30 with an 18 month contract (we're going to need the landline all the time anyway).

The team managed to persuade us to spend an extra £2 or £3 per month for free evening and weekend calls which is fine.

The line was only installed 2 days ago and we already have O2 broadband on it!

Sorry to jump in on the thread but does anyone know if SKY still credit your account £125 if you get BT and then take the phonecalls, broadband etc with SKY?

We havent got a phoneline yet and wont be paying the £125 as I only need it for SKY broadband (and will probs take their phone stuff too).

I notice the £30 offer expired on 31/12/08, does anyone know if they are likely to introduce a new similar offer for 2009 - its just that my friend lives in a new flat and is desperate to get the internet installed....

...she has phone sockets in some of the rooms, but they are currently dead (im guessing they arent wired up to owt) so she would have to pay the installation charge.

If you have sockets, there is a pretty good chance it has had BT service in the past. Look for the master socket, which has the BT logo on it.

If you have one of these, BT can still ask you to pay, but arguing the point with them will sometimes get them to do it for free.

Always argue with them.

sorry when I said it was new I mean to say it was a new built.... which always require a connection fee don't they?

I don't even know if the block has a line going into it, or if any of the neighbours have service.

They like to charge £120 for everything. I am waiting for BT to start charging £120 for sneezing.

At least NTL/Telewest/VM don't charge for setting up new services.

Someone said on another forum that they worked for BT and the reduced connection fee was for cable customers only returning to BT.


I think myself it's for everyone.

Can you get a line reconnected for free if it's been off for a long time or does it have to be a short time mabye a month or two since the line was last active ?
