The new Deeper Understanding seems to have a different perspective on the lyrics. The original I always found quite haunting, about a person seeking a friend in their computer. The hauting chorus gives me shivers, and the song has an overall dramatic feel. Deeper Understanding Mark 2 seems to be about a person having a relationship with their computer and this I think makes it more of a love song, and deters from the haunting quality of the song.

I just hope that This Woman's Work isn't altered too much. That is a song which has come into its own in recent years and has meaningful connotations through its use in the NSPCC adverts, during the high profile Emmerdale episodes and also the lyrics attaching themselves to a society more aware of cancer. If Kate plays her cards right and keeps that meaning, she could well have a number 1 on her hands. The single has leapt up the charts on various occasions without any promo, so Kate's new version and maybe a new video could really boost the sales.

The video for Deeper Understanding Mark 2 should be good. Will be interesting to see what she does with it.

I'm a massive Kate Bush fan and have been since I was a kid, I could even listen to The Dreaming which was an album that divided opinion.

Anyway I heard her new song on Ken Bruce this morning and I didn't know what to make of it. I have to say I agree with Iggman, it's not my cup of tea at all. Maybe it's a grower, I don't know. I'm not sure it's going to be well received by radio 2 listeners.

I suppose I should be glad Kate's released something new, I just feel disappointed it's not something I like. Sorry Kate!

I'm surprised that she has released this remix of Deeper Understanding as a single - I mean, even if us Bush fasn don't like it, what hope is there of the general public liking it?

tbh, I'm struggling to understand what those who claim to 'love it' find so appealing about this mess.

Hmmm... I LOVE Kate, but this is a bit hit and miss for me - I prefer the second half but overall the mixing is all over the place - If it had been better mixed, especially in the mid-section it could have been brill.

Still - new Kate is new Kate, so today is a good day.

The new single is out? I'll have to check that out later.

Kinda worried about it now that I've read some responses here ...

It's not new as such, just a remake of an old, mediocre track. Be afraid, be very afraid ................

Yeah, ok - we heard you the first time...

You do realise that this is an appreciation thread right?

So no criticism is allowed of the lovely Kate's work? Okay, I'll bugger off then.

Bye.

I was pointing out that this is an appreciation thread, you obviously don't appreciate Kate's new work.
Start your own thread and slag the new single off however you want to!

I really like the new version of Deeper Understanding personally, she uses auto-tune to great effect, I still need to give it more listens though.

it's a grower i'm not sure the radio edit does it any credit but the full length version is winning me over.
theres a bit about 3.5 minutes in that reminds me of one of her frutopia ads...but i have weird ears
i'm can't wait to hear what she has done to the sensual world which i've always thought was deeply sexual.
in all honesty i don't really mind what she gives us in this album, if i dont take to certain tracks i'll always have the originals!

I'm sad to see that there isn't a full 'makeover' of 'Why Should I Love You' on the album, tho' still looking forward to the remaster of it.

'This Woman's Work' tho' - Wow, that is a brave decision to completely redo something that means a lot, to a lot of people.

Some have suggested that it might be that Kate want's to 'reclaim' it after Maxwell's version.

Kate isn't that shallow...

Obviously she feels that she's done something new with it that we all deserve to listen to, quite scary...

Roll on May!

probably the one i'm most nervous about but this is Kate we're talking about and i really doubt she will bugger it up, unless she turns it upbeat and into a dance mix....but hey, like i said above theres always the original!

Playing on digit al's idea, here's a comparison of the original DU (FLAC) and the new version (220kbps Mp3):

Original:

http://soundcloud.com/zounds_uk/b1-deeper-understanding

New:

http://soundcloud.com/zounds_uk/kate-bush-deeper-1

Ages before we can compare the others!

*edit - hmm - listening to them back to back I love the new version, but I think I still prefer the old one actually.

Tho' really, they can be considered different songs..

Comparing critically isn't the way to go I've decided hehe
