it's the artists request. why would the venue care? the security staff used by the venue would however comply with reasonable requests from the artists management in regards to certain requests such as no filming. it's far from niave as it's perfectly possible to do this, and i've seen it a number of times, including being at shows with no photos of the artist coming out. at a big show with 15,000 people you can't stop everyone, but you can avoid a scrum of people with phones out blocking the view of everyone, and that's the aim. so the artist can release pro shot photos or videos they've approved so they look good, instead of amateur shots that may not look good. look at all the news articles where something happens at a show and someone has filmed it on a phone and stuck it on youtube. you can avoid your embarassing moments being constantly passed around the internet if you can prevent people filming them. if doing shows for the first time in 35 years you would probably have a lot of nerves so this may help things a bit
