It's well over a year now since the Before The Dawn shows, and no one seems to have heard anything about the DVD. As a fan of KB's music - but not necessarily the person - I just don't get this silence.

Surely at some point, KB could issue a statement as to progress on the DVD. There must be millions of fans who didn't get to the live shows, just waiting for it, and yet the impression is that no one at KB central is bothered in the slightest. Considering that a filmed performance can't be changed, this length of delay is disappointing and rather frustrating. Xmas release, anyone?

it's a year today since i saw her in concert ... can't believe it. it feels like yesterday.

Yes, we saw the third show in the run, and thought it was the best gig we've ever been to. Would go again tomorrow, if I could. Like most KB fans, I have to separate the 'muse and music' from the individual who makes baffling choices. Which - entirely speculating - may have been what became of Del.

Whilst I think it's entirely her perogative to do what she pleases as and when she pleases I do agree that she could have commented on this through her website, even if only to dismiss the very notion that it was ever going to be released.
Me? I've stopped hoping and I'm now a bit 'whatever' regards all the speculation. I'm lucky enough to have actual memories of a great night, something I would never ever have betted on happening!

Yes, it wouldn't take much. But the very fact that this has not happened - by KB herself or anyone connected - implies that there is a plan to use that footage for a DVD version. So why the big mystery?


Yes, we feel a bit like that. Astonishing stuff on the night. But, at the same time, it;s not the second coming, and millions of people who've contributed over decades to KB's lifestyle and success deserve a bit more than silence.

perhaps there's going to be an after the dawn, music for which she is working on now, with another residency next year and a double DVD released for Christmas '16!
oh well, at least an avid fan can dream eh?

On the other hand, seeing as she's such a perfectionist, can we know how many projects has she planned but later abandoned in the past? With the length of time that passes between her work it make sense not to announce anything until it is finished and ready to go. It would be much more infuriating if she had spent the last 22 years saying "I'm looking get a new album out in 2001 and possibly some live shows just after that" and then it doesn't happen.

Rumours and speculation are all well and good but at least we know that when we get an announcement straight from Kate we are definitely going to get something and soon.

I'd much rather the Kate Bush method than, say, the Guns 'n' Roses way.

Yes, it did occur that there might be some new work in the offing, sold as a before and after package. Were that the case, I wouldn't mind a wait, I'd just like a scrap of info, such as expressing intent to do something like this, when it's ready. That's all. Not to much to ask, one might think.

The other thought I had - and God forbid - was that KB might be ill in a serious way. In which case respecting privacy would be a given.

Sure, when it comes to albums. But we know for certain that Before the Dawn was filmed professionally.

i still remember the complete and utter shock on the morning it was announced that she was to do some gigs and the nervousness on the morning that tickets went on sale. Both those moments and the actual night will stay with me for ever

Yes, it was a dream I never thought would come true. My other half, who had previously enjoyed just a few KB tracks, attended the gig with me an 'got it' in a big way. After that she understood what I'd always raved about.

As for the tickets, I'd joined the on-line thing, just with the idea of getting news about any other albums, but that morning I also got an invitation to try for tickets before they went on general sale. Happy days. BTW, at one point I was offered £1,500 for my pair of tickets.

yeah, i also had the order invite thingy but i was still convinced i was going to be left out.

For sure it was a tense morning, mainly due to the Eventim system of allocation as opposed to actually choosing your seats. Luckily, we were in the middle a row or two in front of the mixing desk, which meant great sound and a good enough view of the fabulous show.

Just ordered my deluxe edition of inside the rainbow, an early Christmas present to myself. Very happy

STILL waiting for Before the Dawn, and getting really, really, really, fed up with the utter indifference and lack of info from anyone associated with KB.

There was 12 years between The Red Shoes and Aerial, 35 years for Kate to do a live show again, so I wouldn't hold my breath for news.

She's watched the footage and not happy with the way she looks, some camera angles are wrong, the sound is not quite right, someone in the band missed a beat and that person sitting in the front row was wearing the wrong colour socks!

I'd like to be proved wrong, but not sure the show will ever be released on DVD now .

Yes, I know what you mean. But surely, it wouldn't take too many seconds out of her busy cake eating month, or whatever it is she does all day every day each year - 'cause it sure ain't making music - to just announce this on her website.

I really don't get why, in all this time, KB hasn't just accepted that nothing in life is ever perfect (especially if you put Rolf Harris and Stephen Fry on your records) but million upon millions of people don't care. Everyone who did attend those gigs, and the multitude who couldn't get a ticket, all want to see the recording of the event. No one gives two hoots if KB doesn't like how she looks etc.

Okay, at the end of the day it's her product and she has the right to burn it, if that's what she wants to do. But, refusing to communicate with her fans about this is very poor behaviour, and if you're right ultimately deciding not to release the DVD, would be incredibly selfish.

Kate has never commented on what she's not doing and barely comments on what she is....... she works on a project and tells us when it will be released and then follows that with the minimum of publicity. what surprises or shocks you about that?
i don't think it's going to happen and think we, however much it frustrates, just need to accept that now. it is , frankly, piffle to suggest that she is incredibly selfish if she doesn't, who else has protected their artistic control as much as her? here's the rub.....she gave us concerts we weren't expecting and whether we got tickets or not she owes us nothing else. she doesn't have to release anything and she doesn't need to communicate that. expectations are the mother of all disappointment

Who said anything about shock or surprise, not me. What I do maintain is that any artist who has been afforded such adulation, loyalty and devotion (and with those things a vast amount of money and the freedom that confers) does owe their fans something. Because without those fans none of it would have been possible. Forgetting that fact, thinking fame and fortune are god given right, is never attractive. Asking to be kept informed as to why shows that were filmed have not been made available, even if by a minion, should not be too much trouble. KB is a magnificent songwriter, not a goddess.

Also, we were not given anything with regard to 'Before the Dawn' it was a commercial transaction like any other. A contract between audience and performer that was fulfilled in style. Indeed, that show was the best gig I have ever seen. But it wasn't a charitable thing by any means.

Like many people who attended, I'd waited patiently for 35 years. A time during which shows had been teased on a couple or more occasions, then didn't happen. Until the blessed Bertie decided it was what she should do. But my good luck in getting tickets does not mean the millions who could not attend are second class, indeed, I very strongly believe that 'Before the Dawn' should have been made available months ago, mainly for those people, to say 'sorry you couldn't get in, here's what it was like.'

Any relationship, be it personal, or necessarily distant as in the case of an act and an audience, has to flow both ways. For way too long with KB, this has not been the case. While I still marvel at her music, and probably always will, I am far less happy with what I see as the attitude of the woman behind the music. In that, I may not be quite as alone as you imply.

However, I understand that you and KB don't give two figs, and will post no more on the subject.

The thing with Kate Bush is I've learnt over the years (decades) to enjoy (most) of what she does then completely put her out of my mind because she is like an ex- lover who just isn't interested in what you're thinking or feeling. I'll always love her but she has gone from being a huge part of my life (in the 70/80s and 90s) to being a minuscule part of my life now. Ill snap up the DVD if she does one and forget all about it if she doesn't. But I have just put Inside the Rainbow on my Christmas List
