What do you call the digital SLRs that you can take photos by looking at the screen and not through the view finder. I know they are not proper SLRs, but do they have a name? They look like SLRs, but I don't think you can change the lens.

They get referred to by several names:
Bridge camera.
Super-zoom.
Pro-sumer.
They're all the ones that are bigger than a compact, with more features, but not as full featured (or expensive) as a dSLR.”
Not quite true, the Nikon D40 can be had for £225 the D60 fora about £300 and the Olympus E420 for about £310. In terms of image quality and speed both are FAR superior to the cameras mentioned.
I have the Olympus E-420. Fantastic camera. Small and light enough to replace a point and shoot with all the DSLR qualities. Olympus also makes some fantastic lenses as well. Plus you can use it through the screen, although I usually use the viewfinder as I find I can take better pictures by holding the camera more steadily. It also has a thing to keep the dust out when changing over lens which is very useful.

Under 'Cameras' and 'Technical Details' you should find all the answers.
Amazon appear to have the best bargains but their stock is shrinking daily.
What you want is a Bridge camera, which basically is a bit more than a compact but not as (potentially) complicated as a DSLR, this one below gives a good optical zoom of 12x and is currently very cheap at Tescos for a 12 megapixel £149
